I sent mine in, thinking it was a pedal I was going to retire anyway.. but when I got it back, it smoked! Especially cool in the lower gain areas. I was really surprised how clean and smooth it sounds now. Just follow Keeley's advice and start with the tone around 10o'clock. 10 is the same as 12 on most pedals..

Tim or Timmy is the best for what you describe.
Next would be an RC Booster or the AC for a bit more grind.
Either Barber LTD (Black or Silver) would also work, with the Black being a bit more "middy".
Eternity is pretty good too.
A lower cost alternative would be a nice Blues Driver, especially with Keeley Mods.

I'll never ever part with my Zen, but it has lots of (nice) mids.

Sounds like your AC Booster may be the older version. If so you can get the upgrade to the new version for I think $20..
I say this because my new version AC is not muddy at all, darker than my RC for sure but still has good clarity.

As far as the OCD goes I think the Version 2 is better suited to your needs.

Keeley BD-2 or Barber Silver LTD would be my choice.

+1 on Barber LTD Silver or crank up the VOX a little bit and use a volume pedal or your guitar volume to clean it up.

Maybe an owner can corrct me but doesn't the NOC3 Pure Drive have a clean blend option as well?

The only other one I know of with a clean blend is the Sparkle Drive and I think that has more mids than you're after.

The best true low-gainer I've played FWIW...Barber Silver LTD.

Hey leviathan,

I've owned the Keeley BD-2 Phat mod, the Analogman SD-1/808 clipping selector mod and DS-1 Super mod. Of the three modded pedals, I sold the first 2. I didn't like the BD-2 Phat mod's fuzziness when I cranked the gain up. It was sold to a TGP'er to fund an Xotic RC Booster pedal. The SD-1/808 clipping selector mod pedal was traded for a late '70s silver screw DS-1 pedal which was sold to get my MI Audio Crunch Box. I still own the Analogman DS-1 Super mod, but the Crunch Box really kicks its ass though. I now own an Xotic AC Booster to take the place of the Keeley BD-Phat mod & Analogman SD-1/808 clipping selector mod pedals. I'm happy with how easy it is to dial in a good tone w/o the nasally mids. It has a good low/medium gain tone with good output. I use it to get a Voxish tone on either my Lil' Dawg Champster Special or my '92 Marshall 6101 1x12 combo amps.

Not every overdrive pedal is going to work for everyone, so I'm just relating my experiences to other who might find it useful.

See my problem is i won't get to play of these, my other pedal is a fulldrive by the way.

i worry about the sparkle drive having to much mids in it though i do seem to like it.
I was not crazy about the barber the way it sounded on their website. I would like to get a tim or timmy but i hate waits so i will look on ebay, what would be a fair price for on.

Something transparent like a Katana or Fulltone Fat Boost (not quite as transparent as the Keeley to me) and pull the knob out on the keeley or bring up the drive on the FB. That is if Im understanding what you are looking for correctly.
