Blue Boy Deluxe vs. FD2

Well, what do you think? I'm looking for a good low to med gain pedal with a very open sound and lots of string to string clarity. Any thoughts or other similarly priced pedals I should check out?

I am not familiar with the two models that you are comparing. However, the qualities that you are describing, sound an awful lot like those which I get with a Barber Direct Drive Unit. I purchased it about 3 months ago for $119.95 + s&h. It does not color the inherent tone of my guitar. It might be worthwhile to take a look at this model, hell that's what we love to do.

The FD2 is a great pedal, but it is somewhat compressed as it is essentially a tubescreamer circuit. If an open sound is what you are looking for, in that price range check out the OCD, it is quite versatile and has a less compressed sound than the FD2. Lots of accolades for the OCD around here.

I thought that the OCD was more of a high gain pedal. I already have that territory covered in spades with the crunchbox.

Phillip you are absolutely correct, but the OCD is definitely not a one-trick pony. I use mine as a low to medium gain OD, sounds fantastic - open, dynamic, amp-like, and cleans up nicely with the volume knob. It does very well from clean to mean.

I use the Blue Boy Deluxe into a OCD and it is awesome. Never tried the FD2.

The BBD will do what you're asking. Excellent chordal clarity, even at the higher gain settings. You can also swap out the opamp to something with less compression like a LM833N. Killer pedal.

The BBD is a very nice pedal I got some nice tones from it when I had it, I thought the controls were a little to sensitive when making adjustments but thats kind of nit picking.

I'm using the FD-2 Mosfet now which I do like better especially in the Mosfet mode which opens the tone a little bit and adds some low end punch and clarity in the top end which sounds great for sweet sounding low gain tones!

Definitely check out the Clark Gainster. The Subdecay Liquid Sunshine is also quite nice. The Gainster is Tweedy (in the best possible way). The Sunshine is hard to describe, but has a great range of beautiful tones.

Of the two choices, the BBD is the hands down winner for tweakablity and clarity. The FD2 is nice for lead sounds and it's clean boost abilities, but overdriven chords never worked real well , in my rig at least.

I own a Fulldrive II and have wondered how the BBD compares.

So far, only two people have actually compared the two, and it's tied 1-1

I know there's more guys out there who have compared the Fulldrive and BBD. What say ye, pedal meisters?

I have a FD II and OCD. Also a Crunchbox (which I love) and a Keeley TS-9 and Keeley Blues Driver. I'm interested in the BBD in comparison to the FD II, TS-9 and BD as a potential upgrade/replacement of one of more of those.

Hmm, maybe an OCD and a BBD are in my future.

(Not that I need any more pedals to fuel my gas...)
