Boss TR-2 mods...

Has anyone had their Boss TR-2 modded? Which mod was done?

I've been looking at both the Analogman one and the Keeley. On one hand, the Keeley seems nice as the volume control is on the top of the pedal and allows easy dialing. However, it changes the stock appearance of the pedal (both with the dual-concentric pot and the new knobs). The Analogman keeps the stock appearance, but the volume trim pot is on the inside and a pain to get at.

Both claim to purify the tone and fix the volume drop.

Any concensus on which sounds better? The Analogman is $10 cheaper.

Any other mods?

Keeley FTW.

I had the Analogman modded version before he put a trim pot inside. No volume drop whatsoever. I thought it sounded very nice. I wouldn't be put off by the internal trimmer. Once you set it where you want it, you shouldn't need to keep adjusting it. I sold it because I just don't use tremolo.

I have the Analogman one, and while I've never tried the Keeley, I really love the Analogman one. It sounds really, really close to Fender amp tremolo (or vibrato as Fender called it). No issues with the volume levels either. I did adjust the trimmer inside to be a touch higher and no need to go back in now. Simple and effective.

There is a mod called the (I think) "C4" mod you can do yourself. Basically, take out the chip or diode or whatever it is that is in the space called "C4" on the circuitboard, and evidently this makes a drastic difference in the TR-2.

But first get someone to back me up on this, I'm not sure if it's actually C4 or another component.

I have the Keeley modded TR-2 and it is a great pedal, very organic sounding.

It's C4 alright - although it didn't make a lick of difference when I tried it...

Yeah...I've read about the C4 mod as well.
Funny thing is, I popped open my Keeley TR-2 one day and the C4 was still in there.

So by popping out a component it changes the pedal drastically huh? You mean makes it not work? I haven't tried it, but seems to me that all the parts in the pedal are there for a reason, and if they're removed then the pedal will quit working.

Incorrect. Try it out. If you don't like it, pop it back in.

I have the Keeley mod and use Tremolo all the time. The volume knob addition, IMHO, is a MUST on top!
