Top Hat Emplexador

For any of you guys that have had one, likes..disslikes?

I've been on the hunt for something marshally, I've checked out Reinhardt and Germino, spoke with both guys and searched other's till my mind is over loaded with facts and sound clips. I had planned on going up to Tone Merchant to check out the Top Hat. The master volume and vintage/modern switch has me interested. Still completly undecided at this time. The main concern is most of these amps like to be driven so hard to get the goods.

Anybody play the Reinhardt 18? Bob was saying its pretty loud for the watts...

..thank's for any other info...I'm burned out...... ...

Put it this way. I've waited months for the new Marshalls to come out. Now that they are out, I'll probably get a Top Hat Emp. I tried one and loved it only in the modern mode with boost or whatever one. I think they may have changed it a bit since then. Honestly, that guy now lives in NC the home of tone. I'd buy one in a minute. You won't regret it.

I have owned both. Both amazing amps, good choice either way.

Oddly enough... I would say the master on the Emplexador makes it more basement and around the house friendly than the Reinhardt.

The Reinhardt is more harmonically complex ( might be the EL84s? ) and has that 3D swirl happening. The Reinhardt was plently loud with a band. Sounded huge for a 1x12 combo.

If I was to buy one again it would be the Reinhardt.

solo at the end of this song

is humbucker Les Paul (neck pickup) -> wah -> Emplexador -> 1x12 closed back cab. I owned an Emplexador for several years, great sounding amp, like a couple of Marshalls in one box.

Riff, those are great sounds! PIA to find the file for download, but worth the effort. was that a whammy pedal in the solo?

Anyway, I have owned an emplexador for four years, and it's just an incredible sounding marshall flavored amp. i think perhaps the master volume is a bit overrated because to get the best tones out of it you need to crank the master and adjust the gain to taste. jmho.
I run mine through a tophat 4x12 with scumbacks H75's, and when i open up the volume and let her breathe a little it's a beautiful thing.

looking for something Marshally...check out my review...it includes my thoughts on the Top Hat Emplexador

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...d.php?t=185368

My short answer is that there are better choices than the Emplexador IMO...since that reivew, I've tried several other Marshall-y amps...none are as good as the V-Plex for the authentic Marshall tone IMO.

Out of the 11 TopHats I have owned, I used to own a 50w Emplexador and matching 2x12 bottom. Big ballsy amp, especially when you open it up on a big stage. Great master volume - very useful tones and sounds at lower volumes - just like all of the amps Brian makes.

Highly recommended, but only if you like a good variety of Marshall sounds....in an amp that has enough power to carry almost any gig.

NO NO NO baby, that is not a whammy it is the one and only Blue Box baby. MXR Blue Box is what it sounds like. Though almost makes me want to go buy one... do do, doot. do doot da doot. Catchy tune dude, You need Steven Tyler to sing that one. The Empl. is a killer amp. If I was in a big time band and needed the whole backline of several amps on top of cabs it would be all Top Hat Empl. They are cool.

I like the Emplexador over the Germino and the Splawn, although they are all pretty close, but what makes the Top Hat stand out is its versatility over the other two. The price is reasonable as well. What makes the Mojave and Germino difficult to swallow is the volume you have to have in order to hear their sweetness of tone. And Noel is a great dude over TM, can't put enough reco's for that tone merchant...

I own an Emplexador 50 watt head. Great, great amp. I bought it 'cause I love the sound of a Les Paul through an old Marshall Plexi but couldn't find one in decent shape at a fair price. For once, I made a good decision! Tophat is one of my favorite amp makers (I also have a 1x12 club) and, for me, the Emplexador is their best sounding model. Though I bought the amp for the vintage mode, the real surprise to me was how much I ended up loving the modern side of it. Modern Marshall sound but not really like Marshall's JCM800, and not really like their 900's, but closer to a really sweet, full-sounding Jubilee (my favorite Marshall, I own the 2550).
Only thing I would suggest is, go for the 100 watt if you can afford it. The extra headroom is cool in the vintage mode.

The Emplexador is exactly that complex organic tone. It is everything a Marshall was supposed to be! It will take you from 68- to 2011 and beyond. You would be hard pressed to find a better British tone period. The master works like no other amp I have ever played, 100 watt is great and the 50 is as well. You can't go wrong with anything that man builds. The interior looks like fine art, the routing and layout are just unreal. Terminal strip construction, instead of turret. These amps have stood the test of time, unlike the flavor of the month we see so often. Don't even hesitate to buy one. I have never seen a person give it a bad review, ever!
