consensus on tung sol 6v6 RI's?

Anyone tried these yet? If so, what are your findings?

I'm hoping these aren't rebranded EH tubes. I HATE those eh 6v6's...not the sound so much, but they just aren't very reliable, in my experience.

The JJ's are pretty robust but they almost sound more '6l6ish' to me. Not bad, just different.

Good experience after selling several hundred pairs. Much more reliable than the EH's which I refused to carry.

redtoploader,

The Tungsol 6v6's are great! Much smoother and more reliable than the JJ's have been for me. Not quite the Marconi, but a very close second for a 1/3 of the price. Try them you will not be disappointed.
Good Luck

What amp are they going in? I've been researching current production 6V6's for my Orange RV50. Tung-Sols are 2x the EH's but much less the NOS.

I hear the JJ's are good but like you said, more 6L6ish. I've heard of reliability problems with those as well. They are louder and have more bottom from what I have read. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these over the EH's. However, a lot of manufacturers including Orange still use EH for stock tubes. (Funny, they use JJ 12AX7 & 12AT7's though).

Going in tweed deluxe type amps, about 350-375 on the plates.

The responses seem encouraging- I think i'll try a pair! Thanks to those that replied.

I have them in a Clark Beufort Spec- they sound great and haven't had any issues with them. Haven't swapped them to compare but the amp has them and it sounds/responds great.

food for thought... for grins, I just purchased 3 reissue tung-sol 12ax7's...
2 died within the first 7 hours of use... in V2 and V3 of one of my jub marshalls..no troubles with the amp either.
new sensor cant possibly have a different formula for every brand tube they make.

I am a vintage tube guy myself... but find JJ's stuff to really be above the pack in terms of quality and sound.
but thats subjective...

Did you buy from a reputable source - were they tested - did they do a burn in?

I used a pair in a SDG Proluxe (5E3 with bigger transformers and fixed bias)... they kicked ass. I also use the 5881s in my Bassman. No problems with either. Loved the tone of both.

I have also heard inconsistent reviews of the 12AX7s, but never anything bad about the 6V6s or 5881s.

Why is it not possible?

FWIW, I've had my T-S 6v6 for a couple of weeks now and been playing pretty consistently. They sound great. Full and round with smooth top end. I am Very pleased with the cleans and mild breakup tones!

As for their AX7s, I have had 2 for almost a year now in an amp that sees regular use and haven't experienced probs yet ...and hope I don't because I just bought 3 more. I like their sound and dynamics. It's been a great tube so far and hope the new ones last like my other pair (which are still going strong).

Edward

Sorry to hijack the thread but what's the general consensus of all the New Sensor rebrands of Sovtek tubes using old historic names?

I have heard the Tung sol 12ax7 which sounds good and it looks like the 6V6 is also nice. On the other side of things I have heard the 5881 isn't any good. Please discuss the Tung Sol's and Mullards. As a side note good to know there are now 2 choices for modern 6V6 tubes.

Really? I remember a thread on TGP a few months ago with overwhelming praise for the 5881. Of course, there's no consensus on anything "tonal", but the majority of responses I saw were very positive.

In fact, a quick search of this board turned this thread up http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...highlight=5881
