Loopers Rc50

Anyone use one of these or a Jamman. Son is looking for a looper that can do reverse and be able to save settings.

No reverse on the JamMan. I'd get him an RC-20xl to start

I've been using the RC-50 for several months. It works well enough for me. I get more enjoyment out of playing alone than ever before. I put down a rhythm loop and play leads over it for hours. Can set it up so that each loop is a section of a song, then control the timing and order the loops/song sections are played back in. Really, it is awsome. I finally started using the microphone input (which nobody ever talks about). That is fun too. I think the sound quality is surprisingly good-very good. After a moderate learning curve, it is easy to use and can be easily configured to your preferences. Lastly, the internal drum machine has decent drum patterns, way better than the average portable keyboard crap.

How does it compare with the RC-2 ... which seems to have the same features except no reverse ... but in a regular pedal package.

Go for the RC20XL, great price and will do a lot with a great price compared to the RC50

personally i never used reverse and like the smaller cased pedals so i went with the RC2....does everything the RC20 does minus the reverse.

The RC-50 is definitely a strong looper now that the 1.01 software fixed the playback dropout AND there is a workaround for feedback so you can use it to fade out old material and evolve the loops. There are still several features "of a higher order" missing from the RC-50, like loop windowing and loop dividing, but if you need stuff like this then the Gibson EDP is the way to go.

I have owned just about every high end looper made. At this point I recommend either the EDP or the RC-50, or both. It really depends on your needs. IMO, the RC-50 is a great looper in that most of the rudimentary looping features are included and it adds multiple stereo phases and onboard storage and offloading to a computer via USB. This makes for a great gig tool. If you don't need the esoteric looping features of the EDP, this is the one to buy.

starfish, I have heard some problems with the RC-50, specifically that there is about a 500ms delay when you switch between phrases. Any other issues with it that you have discovered? I am looking at this or the jamman.

i use an EDP, but you might also research on the king of looping sites www.loopers-delight.com As insane as people here are about pedals, there are crazy people out there (I am one!) who are all about loops. Know the limitations, frustrations and tricks with every hardware and software looper out there.

Boss loopers are great and usefull tools. But if you don't want any compromise in sound, be carefull, I think there is is a little loss of harmonics, presence, etc... certainly due to the sampling rate and digital conversion.
But I am perhaps too demanding ! :-)

Wherever you read that, the problem description is incorrect. There was a delay when going from record to loop mode in version 1.00 software. That was fixed with the patch. There is no delay going between phrases.

Hey Starfish, with your experience in the looping domain, have you had much experience with the Electro Harmonix 2880 + the foot controller? If so, opinions, comparisons to the aforementioned RC-50 or Gibson unit?

I would say "delay" is a misnomer; the sound would actually just cut out for a few milliseconds but the loop would still be on tempo.

So then with the update, the sound cutting out for a few milliseconds no longer occurs? I am interested in purchasing a looper (either the new Jamman or the RC-50) and like the RC-50 better (more options) but just want to make sure there are no issues or glitches that still need to be worked out still.

Have you joined the mailing list at Loopers Delight yet? Very helpfull & dedicated bunch over there, but no forum, unfortunately.

And if you're new to looping, the RC-50 might be overkill, as it's pretty complicated if you're just looking to lay down solos over some changes.
