Barber Barb EQ in front of what amp?

What amps are you using your Barb EQ with?

I just bought a Carr Hammerhead and it has unusual non-intuitive (but fun) controls, and I find myself kicking around for a new EQ.

Does anyone play their BarbEQ into something more than a simple amp (Barber says he built this to model classic amps into amps with few controls)?

What's your experience with it so far?

Ud Reks,

I use my new Barber Burn Unit EQ into the front end
of either my:

Boogie Studio Preamp/Simul 2:90 rig w/two 1x12 cabs w/Mojotone BV-30H speakers (sounds HUGE)

-or-

Peavey Classic 30 w/Mojotone BV-30H speaker (sounds great)

The BU sounds great with either rig!! I run the Burn and Dynamics controls
all the way up.

I am using it with a Clark Deluxe, mostly. It is an amazing pedal. It gives the Clark touches of Blackface, Bassman, and Marshall, in varying amounts. I have also used it with my Budda (which has a high, mid, low tone stack). It still sounds great, but IMO the Marshall setting is the best with that amp. The EQ is so smooth, I think it would sound good with any amp.

Epiphone Valve Jr. Head with Mercury Magnetics Mod. Pricey mod but WELL worth it!! Volume only. The Barber EQ makes this amp so versatile. Not that this head needed any help but I was impressed with the quality of the sound. Kind of like a good preamp for a mic!

I used mine in front of a Fender Pro Jr (single tone knob wonder); would imagine it would do a great job with the Epi valve jr for the same reason. :AOK

Thanks for the replies so far. This is interesting. No one yet is using it in front of anything but amps with simple controls.

That was what I needed it for - the limitation of my amp's onboard tone control. I would imagine that if you wanted to use one an ANY amp, and just set it to sound radically different from the amp's tone by itself (sort of a pseudo second channel) it should also do the job admirably. Very cool little pedal, I just sold mine because I got an Alessandro Boxer that is very tweakable on its own.

Yeah, using mine (my second) with a one knobber as well. I don't have any other amps at present, but I certainly wouldn't say that pedal is limited to amps with little EQ options. With a stomp I can go from the Class A grind of my amp to a very passable Fender BF clean.

A very smart concept, Mr. Barber.

I used mine with a Bruno Cotipper.
Made my BOR sound less JTM45 and more metalfront JMP50.
Made my Gainster sound more tweed.
In BF mode, it took away low end, but it did sound more BF and less Bruno.
Sold it under duress. Will likely buy again.

use it into the normal channel of an AC30 to add some brilliance and scoop the mids a tad and make it sound like a fendery clean channel...works really well.
