3 Knobs on COT50 Gold - What do they each do?

I just purchased a used COT50 Gold and it did not come with the usual 1-sheet Owners Manual. Does anybody else who owns one have the instructions?

I am guessing that the 3rd knob, the one that looks like the usual knob on a COT50 is the bias knob. The first knob has "detents" (Master Vol?). The second knob, when all the way CCW, makes the pedal louder, more strident - turn it CW and it quiets up and has less treble.

I am using the COT Gold to goose an Eternity (gain on about 10 o'clock) for leads and when I need "a bit more".

What "sweet spot" settings are other COT Gold owners finding?

Thanks for your ideas,

James

Thanks Jpagey - but NEITHER of those posts say what the 3 knobs are and what they each specifically do.

By the way, I AM familiar with the search function - I used it BEFORE I posted and spent what seemed like an hour culling through Lovepedal threads, never finding the answer to my specific question - THAT is why I am asking.

Any COT Gold owners out there?

Peace,

James

If it's similar to the layout of my Purple Plexi than they'd be, (l->r) volume, gain, then bass cut/boost which is sort of tied in to the gain knob.

I have Balance Gold and the quotes from the above link answered it for me:

"...Cot50 gold has the powerscale tone control (no treble bleed to ground, just smoothes out the tone, dynamics stay PERFECTLY intact), master vol plus master vol plus 9VDCtap.. basically a classic red with all options..."

and

"...As cuz/karl said, COT 50 Gold (with Volume, Bias, and Power Scale Tone controls..."

Thus, it is a CoT Red with 2 additional controls (besides the bias control the CoT has), one for master volume and another for tone.

Important to note that the "tone" control on a COT GOLD is not to be thought of like the tone control on an Eternity. The "tone" control is VERY subtle and tends to work in conjunction with how the other knobs are set. The "tone" knob fully counter-clockwise is the mellowist setting. Going clockwise increases the "presence". At least that was my experience with the COT GOLD.

OK Guys - thanks so much for your help. I just got in and am beat, so I will read the threads tomorrow.

I have a COT Lil China Red, a COT Angus Mod, a 1 Knob Balance and recently sold to a Bud a COT Blue so I know what the Bias knob does. I think I figured out that the right pot is the Bias - it has a knob like all the other Lovepedals have. I also believe that the left pot with the detents must be the Volume Knob. The puzzling pot is the middle one - must be the power scaling tone knob. It must work like a AC30 top boost knob - all the way CCW it the loudest and brightest - turn CW and it dulls up.

Still hoping that someone who is currently using one can give some insight on how you have your COT Gold knob settings stacking with an Eternity.

Catch you tomorrow,

James

1. Read these threads.
2. Plug in CoT 50 Gold and Eternity.
3. Re-read the 2 threads.
4. Set Eternity as you normally do.
5. Set bias knob of CoT 50 all the way ccw--7 o'clock, set tone control at 12 o'clock, set volume at 5 o'clock.
6. Turn on both CoT and E.
7. If there is too much gain when both pedals are stacked, turn down gain on Eternity. If not enough gain, turn bias knob of CoT Gold cw.
8. If the tone of both pedals stacked is not to your liking, turn tone knob of CoT Gold slowly to right and left 'till you find the sweet spot.
9. If the volume jump when using both pedals stacked is too great, turn down master volume of CoT Gold (ccw).
10. Re-read the 2 threads.

I have a CoT Gold and none of my pots have "detentes". Side by side comparison tone wise with my red, and, knob parity told me: left- volume, center- power scaling tone(?), right- bias. The CoT Red I just sold, and I don't remember who to, was an awesome pedal. Just step on it and go, The gold is it's almost perfect successor, but the knobs just take away and don't allow for more of what the Red did. sometimes I wish it had a bit more hair, running it into the E is cool, but I need to do allot more experimenting to get a good balance of gain/crunch/noise. It might help to start gigging again and running the SHIVA harder.
