Gustavsson vs vintage "Burst" - how do they match up?

any "shoot outs" between a Gustavsson bluesmaster and a vintage
Les Paul?

the bluesmaster uses a 54 les paul top wrap style (non bridge) tail so
a shootout with a 1953-54 model would be very interesting.

and of course both have old growth air dried wood ,brazilian rosewood board, no truss rod condom, hide glue, steel studs/ steel bushings with light weight alum tail , old formula rock hard nitro without the sticky plastcizers, deep tendon neck joint, scatter wound alnico pickups, etc...

Both are great guitars so there's really no contest... just a matter of preference.

Funny you should mention that, Trioderob... as it happens, I currently own a '54 GT. And before too very long I will also currently own a Bluesmaster '59.

Of course my JG will have humdoggie pickups whereas my '54 looks just like the beauty pictured above.

But nevertheless, I'll let ya know what I find out...

As you know, I'm involved in a serious love affair with the Mutt. That being said, my Bluesmaster with the Charlie Christians in it gives the ole' girl a run for her money.
There's just nothing like the feel of a 55 year old tramp in your hands though....

I owned a JG BM at the same time as the 54 GT I still have. There was a point I thought I might just sell all my old guitars and keep the JG BM and buy a Collings Archtop and just be done with all the horse trading madness. In the end I just couldn't part with my old guitars, especially my 63 Strat and the 54 GT. The JG BM is every bit as good as any new guitar and better than many vintage guitars I have played. I really like JG's mixture of Tele/Paul but I dig my Tele as a Tele and LP as a LP.... Kind of like choosing the right tool for the task at hand, thats just me. Also, As Charlie mentioned when you get a really good old one it is magical.

My biggest guitar surprise thus far in life is that I don't currently own a guitar with humbuckers and I'm all smiles.

Don't expect it to be a vintage LP, it is not :RoCkIn
On the other hand, I've played/owned a couple of vintage LPs that were not all that hot, either.

Bottom line is, "if it works for you, that's all that should matter".

Economically...1 burst, or 20-ish JG's.

I'd take the 20 JG's and live happily ever after

Teleish?

Forgive my ignorance but is the Bluesmaster Teleish simply because of its shape?

Or is there something I'm missing in the mahogany/maple/rosewood/humbuckers/stoptail/set neck combination that offers a Telecaster experience?
