Anybody use DHL for shipping an amp?

Good/bad experiences? Better than FedEx (they have to be better than UPS).

I have used them a few times with no incident. They often have the best rates for shipping a really big heavy box too.

That said, I think it's really hit or miss with any of the shipping companies. I pack amps and guitars to the point where I cannot imagine how they could be damaged. It's really all you can do.

They broke my Heritage Victory head's casing - must have dropped kicked it out of their truck - the wood fractured all the way through the bottom right corner of the head, so the amp was swinging loose.

I'm glad you asked. I've been so happy with them that I opened an account. The rates are the best and the service I've received over the phone and at their facilities has been very good. Not one problem with mishandled packages and I think their ground service is a little quicker than UPS.

I recently had someone ship me an amp using my account and the rate was better than his UPS business account. He had never used DHL before and even his UPS guy said that DHL is more gear towards freight and better equipped at to handling larger boxes.

Like Killa said, it is hit or miss. Any company can damage a package, but if that happens how far will they go to rectify the problem and make sure the customer is satisfied? Judging by the service I've received from DHL as compared to UPS and Fedex my money is on them.

Yeah, they lost my amp on it's way from Cal to Atlanta, inexplicably sent it to Cleveland. They found it after I called them on it (I was tracking every couple hours in anticipation, and it should have been here) and they said 'terribly sorry, we're re-routing it to ATL overnight'. The next day it didn't come, and it turns out they had re-routed it to Charlotte, again without explanation. It finally got here the next day, but they said it had been marked for customer pickup (again, no idea how) and it never went out for deivery on the truck. They said they'd bring it the following day and I said don't do anything else- I'll come get it. And I did. And it's the best amp I've evr owned. But still, ugh.

I've used them now a few times now with no problem. Like Killa-B said, they are definitely the way to go (pricewise) when it comes to shipping bigger boxes / items.

I recently shipped a large oversized 2x12 cabinet from Florida to Alabama and DHL was about $30 cheaper than UPS on the shipping rate!

Also, DHL will come to your house and pickup your package within a pre-set time frame. UPS won't. You have to hang out all day so you don't miss them.

I'm a Gries dealer and Dave shipped a Gries 5 head from Mattapoisett, MA all the way to Singapore using DHL. No problems at all.

DHL definitely have better rates then Fed Ex or UPS and they seem to handle the packages better as well.

Regardless of who you use, just make sure you pack it well and insure it. If you want to sell that Heritage your gonna have to ship it

I've heard a few horror stories, but I've had nothing but great experiences with them. Best customer service in the business IMO.

I shipped my Sundown A-50 head to a buyer in Washington DC from my home in San Diego via DHL with no issues or mishaps.DHL also had the best rates for the size and weight of my package.

I used them once without incident. The box was heavy and pretty big. It was an inch or two too large for one of the dimensions and UPS wanted $125 to ship the friggin' thing. DHL did it for less than half of that.

I could do that... I'm still lovin the amp. I'm also waiting to get the ODS 10 from Rockytop. I'd like to do both at once with better audio/video equipment.
