Would you trade....

Heres the deal... I love my 68 Twin Reverb with the EVM speakers that I personally built a baffle for. Its the best sounding twin I've ever heard...

... there is a local guy thats willing to trade me his Mesa Lonestar 1x12 amp straight up for it.

I"m not a boogie guy. In fact I would give the amp a chance, but more than likely just sell it to use the cash towards another purchase.

What would you guys do? I'm really on the fence with this one. I love the twin, but don't ever use it (haven't turned it on in over 5 months)...so its collecting dust. People always regret loosing amps like this and I'm worried I may need it in the future....but the lonestar could be a new direction of amps, and in the worst case be a major cash upgrade.... AAAARgh!

help!

It would be a cash upgrade, but (some will call me crazy) I just traded my Lone Star 212 straight across for a NIB '65 TRRI. I took a hit, value-wise, but The Twin has the BEST clean tone ever. The Lone Star, however, had a very good clean, but something was missing. Maybe too...I don't know...un-warm? I find the Twin's traditional EQ much easier to dial in. I don't like the Boogies "cascading" EQ architecture.

I was always just "almost there" with the Lone Star. With the Twin, I have that beautiful clean tone to escape to, when all is said & done.

On a pro-Lone Star note, I do prefer the sound of the 1x12 over the 2x12. That may have made the difference in me keeping mine, but I have the TRRI now; it sounds great and I'm not looking back.

Good luck with your deal.

Oh yeah,...the Lone Star outweighs the twin by about 20-25lbs.
Something to consider, too.

I own a lonestar and two 68 twin reverbs. I would not make the trade. The lonestar is cool and more versatile, but in the end I would take the twin with a good overdrive pedal any day.

Suggest a 'trial' swap for a couple of weeks, you're decision should be a lot easier then.

I have had a TRRI, LSC and an LSS. I would do the trade for the LSC, but not for an LSS. The LSC may not have quite the TR cleans. They are close. The LSC is a much versatile channel switcher.

I'm in sort of the same situation. I have a mint '66 Super Reverb with JBLs in it. I hardly ever use it, it's impractical and not versatile with those speakers, but I love it anyway.

If I decided to trade it or sell, I'd look for a piece of vintage gear that is going to be really useful and appreciate in value like it has.

Tough decision!

You Crazy!!!!

Lonestar...ok but not so good.

Twin...Great and add in a good OD like the Zen and it kills the Mesa. IMHO of course.

If you're not a Boogie guy (and I'm VERY with you on THAT), why not just sell the Twin and get something you'll actually use?
