Tele's with humbuckers???

I have to admit, I've always been a Strat guy - and I think that its almost to a fault. I've pretty much ignored Tele's up till recently, now I've been itching to see how my playing would sound through something other than my Strat with its single coils. I'd love to play through some humbuckers but I'd prefer to stay on the Fender side of things. What are your opinions of Tele's with humbuckers? I prefer vintage style Fenders so I don't know if a Tele with buckers is a "conflict of interests" - do those pickups really belong in just LP's and the like?

Is it really a Tele if it has humbuckers?

This is a humbucker Tele I made out of a real Tele:

I'm not really interested in anything Fender has to offer as far as humbucker Telecasters go. I'd buy a Rice Custom if I was gonna have someone else build a humbucker Tele.

Exactly my question I would never put a humbucker in a Strat but it almost seems ok in a Tele - I wonder why?

Sweeeeet guitar BTW, that's exactly something like I've been itching to play. I'll go take a peek at the Rice guitars...

There are quite a few examples of Tele's with 'buckers, here's my favorite.

Here's more info on it: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tar?sku=511141

As for the question "is it really a Tele?" Well, if Fender says so that's good enough for me!

it's a sexy guitar, too bad fender had to slap their name on it and ruin it.

Gotta say, been playing Teles for over 35 years and I love the Tele neck pups. Took a big leap of faith for me but I went and got me one with a humbucker in the neck.

My Rice Custom with a Truetone PAF in the neck and Van Zandt True Vintage in the bridge. Hearing the pickups played together, the only thing I could think was why did I wait so long to go this route.

Looks like a nice project!

We did one similar to yours a few years ago, and the toggle switch was in the same place as yours. I kept hitting it by accident, which was a nuisance. Eventually we used a 3 way mini switch instead of a full size (Gibsonesque) toggle. It worked much better, and was still easy to reach.

...how do those P92's sound? More like SC or HB or what? I'm looking for something "close" to a P90-meets-"original" Fender/Seth Lover WRHB...if it exists.
