Please tell me about the Germino club 40...

Fellow ampcoholics,

I'm gassing for a Marshall-voiced (Marshally?) combo that has great cleans with the guitar volume rolled back. From what I'm reading, the Club 40 sounds like a great fit. However, there is little info on the 'net and even fewer pics. I'm considering the combo with the tube/solid state rectifier switch and G12M Heritage speakers. My questions:

How "gainy" is the amp when wound up?
How much clean headroom is there?
How would this amp compare tonewise to my Marshall 2204 through, say, a 2x12 cab with the same speakers?

Thanks a ton!

Medium gain, you'd need a pedal to really push the gain.
A fair amount with Fender single coils.
Dunno.

But I do know that the C40 is a GREAT sounding amp if you crave late 60s, early 70s Marshall amp tones!

Thanks. I've listened to the clips and none of them are that impressive, imo. Nothing that seems to showcase what this amp can really do. I'm hoping that's the case, anyway!

I do love that tone - its versatility is very attractive as well.

Anybody know the skinny on these? I'm also trying to decide between the combo and the head/2x12 cab.

I had a Classic 45 2x12 combo and a Club 40 head/2x12 cab. Unless you need a closed back cab, the 2x12 combo would work very well. These two amps with a pair of Greenbacks sound awesome, IMO. Greg is a very approachable, friendly, helpful, and knowlegable guy which sweetens the pie even more.

Thanks - Greg's reputation seems to indicate that I don't need to worry about being able to try one, since Seattle seems void of Germino dealers.

Mine stays fairly clean up to close to halfway on the volume.. really nice cleans.. dimed it will nail most any classic Marshall tone. Messed around a bit today dimed with LP R7...jammed out some old ACDC type stuff and some old ZZ.. perfect for that type of thing

I love mine, as Bo stated is stays clean till about 11-12 o'clock or so. It is not a Fender type clean but it is gorgeous, it also does that clean/crunch thing absolutely outstanding.

I have 3 live clips with that amp at about 12 o'clock, 2 are with the R4 and one with the Nocaster. I used a 2X12 semi-open with heritage g12m's.

R4

Nocaster

It's not bad for a camcorder and a decent mic, it is a fair representation of how the amp sounds when I play, but of course TMMV.

Nice tone and great playing! You guys are firming up my decision here. Do you have the tube/solid state rectifier switch on yours?

Negative, I don't think it was an option when I bought mine.
I did do the bright cap mod on mine though, that is very easy to do.

Thanks - I've not heard of that mod. I assume it's similar to the Marshall bight cap mod?
