Help me decide on a cabinet...
i'm trying to decide what type of cab to get for my new bass rig. I'm considering either a Eden 6x10 cab or possibly the Bergantino 3x10 and 2x12 cabs. In my band, sometime i use a pick and other times i use my fingers or slap, so we cover quite a lot of ground. I like to feel the punch, but i also like to feel the low end as well. I had a SWR 6x10 goliath sr. a while back and it didn't get very deep.
Anyone have experience with any of these cabs? |

take a look at drbasscabs.com. They're not expensive and supposed to be very good quality, with some decent options. And they're totally open to custom orders. just a thought. as for the amps you're asking about i don't have any firsthand experience, though all three do look good...

thanks, i'll check those out. i forgot to mention, i will be buying some sort of power amp and probably the Eden Navigator pre or I may go with the Aguilar DB659. I've used both of those in the past and i know they sound great for what i'm doing. I had the DB680 as well, but i think the 659 sounds much better. I have no idea why though. I thought the 680 would have the same sound, with more options.

Bergantino HT322, the best bass cab I've ever heard in my life. One 12", two 10"s and a controllable tweeter, front ported, 1/4" and speakon jacks, 800 watt handling. It weighs 95 pounds, but man, it's worth it. Expensive, but you'll stop looking at cabs forever.

I have the Eden 610XLT. Just more of the great tone you would expect from the Eden 210 and 410 XLT cabs. Also nice to have the ability to tilt and roll.

COOP! I HEARD YOU WERE LOOKING FOR SOME BASS CABS. I CAN'T HEAR TOO WELL, BUT IF 10s AREN'T SHAKING YOU ENOUGH YOU MAY WANT TO GO TO 15s. I HAVEN'T PLAYED A BASS CAB WITH 12s AT VOLUME, BUT THE ONE I HAVE PLAYED AT LOWER VOLUMES ISN'T PARTICULARLY INSPIRATIONAL- IN MY OPINION.
I ENJOY 15s. MAYBE THAT'S WHY I HAVE TO WEAR THIS HEARING AID ALL THE TIME... IN FACT, THERE WAS THIS LITTLE MAN PLAYING MY RIG, STANDING IN FRONT OF IT PLAYING AND IT BLEW HIM OFF TO ANOTHER PLACE. DAMNDEST THING I EVER SAW. -Gordon.

HI
Epifani's are awesome. Get yourself a couple smaller cabs you can use together. Easier to carry around and transport when its a modular setup vs. a big 6x10. Also, resale is easier once you decide you want something else Rob

If you can afford Bergantino or Epifani, go modular and avoid all the second rate stuff [Ampeg, Eden, SWR, etc.]. Maybe a 2-12" and a 3-10". The Epifani Neo line has obvious appeal. Jim Bergantino did the original designs for Aguilar and Epifani. Kind of shows.

I have to say I'm not a bassist, but Tim at earcandycabs.com has blown me away with the quality and tone of his cabs. They use real guitar tonewood and special joints to craft their Cabs. The price is pretty good too. My 2x12 sounded really good at stage volume, clear singing tone that never sounded flabby. I bet his cabs would get you that tight punchy sound you're looking for. Hope this helps.

THIS IS GORDON COLE CALLING FROM SPOKANE!!
it's nice to see some people that know the best show ever made here. glad season 2 is finally on dvd! those accugroove cabs look great! So many choices. Do you think they would work well for Pixies style to slap as well? I like the El Whappo and also the 2x10 model. Both of those together would be cool. Listen to my band to get a idea of what i'm playing. Our page is in my sig. (you can tell by our page layout that i'm a bit into david lynch!) |
