Hollow Body
I have always wanted a hollow body bass, but either a) I cant find one or b) when I do I don't have the cash for one. Can anybody suggest a good hollow body that won't break the bank?

An Ibanez Artcore series will be the ticket! Just google search that and up will pop up zzsounds and other places for sales. Different places might not have them and Ibanez makes them both single and doubel cut, for a sound idea listen to early dead type stuff when Lesh played a hollowbody gretsch I believe and was heavily modified by Alembic.

one of my favorites is the washburn ab90 bass. full scale, fized tune-o-matic, fast neck, great asthetic.
the only thing is you need xtra long scale strings. the trapeze pulls it back so that if you used reg long scale w/ silk ends; it would extend over the nut.

Keep and eye out for a used Epiphone Jack Cassady Signature. They are a superlative hollowbody bass for reasonable money!

Ha, i keep posting this in various threads, and i've never even played them: take a look at Waterstone. They look cool, i've read a few good reviews at talkbass, dude from cheap trick plays one, and they're cheap.
The indra is a semi-hollow and looks dang nice, and there's also the Brighton '64 which is full hollowbody and available in a 32" or 34" scale. And no, i've never played them, just ogled the site a few times and researched them a little bit, so i can't attest to their actual real-world quality. |

What? No Lakland Love?
I'd just like to add, if you've got the cash for it, a used Lakland Skyline Hollowbody goes for around $900. Best. Hollowbody. EVARRR!!!!! Lots of tone, very easily playable, and with the "thumb-thing" technique and a set of ancient, dead flatwounds you can get some GNARLY "thud". GREAT bass for puttin' the grind in the behind of any dance floor. I heartily recommend it!

I've got an early '70s Epiphone EA-260. It looks like an ES-335 (or should I say EB-2?). Made in Japan by Matsumoku. You can find Aria, Conrad, Univox, etc. basses that are the same or similar. Mine came with flatwounds already installed for that wondefully thunky sound. I think I paid about $275 for mine. I used it on this (silly little) home recording:

Dean makes a killer hollowbody, similar to the Gretsch hollow body. It is a quality instrument, 32 inch scale (easier for guitar players to double on bass) and I have seen them in the $300 dollar range on ebay. My bass player has an orange one, absolutely killer. We do a rockabilly 50s and early 60s surf thing and it is the cows utters!!!

I also have the Indra (2 PU) and the Indra I (1 PU) and they are semi- hollow body and also great instruments, both 30" scale. These are great because I play and sing a lot so the short scale is sweeeeeet. Waterstone has a new 30" scale hollowbody bass called the RSG and mine will be delivered today. It is black and I cannot wait to test it through my Ampeg B100R combo. www.modguitars.com |

I am going to be listing it on Ebay him in a few days. |

A Jack's a semi-hollow innit? The op was asking about a hollowbody. I like my old Kay ("Sheryl Crow" model).

G&L makes some great semi hollow basses. I originally saw one like this at a Guitar Show, but it had just been sold. Eventually I just decided to order one. I need to take better photos of though, it's a great bass, plays extremely well and has that warm hollow tone to it.
