Has anyone tried the new Hiwatt Hi-Gain amps?
I stumbled across these over at thomann.de a while back, and I´m actually pretty stoked over the notion of a "modern" Hiwatt. Especially the 50w with the full set of features looks nice. Has anyone had the chance to try these out yet? If they´ve managed to retain and evolve the basic tone of the old Hiwatts there should be powerful tone aplenty.

I heard that they would not release them in the US until they sounded better. I called the distributer in the US and the basic info was that they were not happy with them yet, but that they would continue to make changes to them until they were happy. I also thought that it sounded like a good idea.

I can't see Hiwatts making good hi-gain amps. Isn't the purpose of a Hi Watt supposed to be bone-blisteringly loud cleans?

Depends on the era - later Hylights and Biacrowns (mid-to-late 70s, early 80s) have quite a bit of preamp gain.
