On a good day

they can still build a damn fine guitar down there in Nashville. Snagged this one yesterday:

http://images.lilypix.com/thumbnails.php?album=1375

Best thing is, it sounds as good as (maybe better than) it looks. Seems like they found a really fine batch of mahogany -- look at the back -- and if you look inside, the color is like the old stuff, more brown than it's been in a long time. To say nothing of the great eastern maple top. Mmmmm, good!

I didn't find it. It found me. But I wrote the check to www.marksguitarloft.com.

Thanks for the info. I have to say, that may be the most beautiful Les Paul I've seen. I love the color of the burst, the cool, random patterns in the wood, the dark board.

I looked at the othere guitars on their site. Very nice, but none that match your stunner. The top on that guitar and the color remind me of some of the JG's I've seen recently.

Man if Henry J would bow out of the company, THAT guitar would seriously tempt me to go back to Gibson & the Historics (that I just walked away from recently). Very legit, "vintage" looking in many aspects. WOWEE.

The eastern top, mineral streaks, the type of figuring and the color....yep. Shallbe said it- very reminiscent of JG's wonderful work, which of course hails from the guitars of yesteryear.

Very very NICE!

That is a gorgeous guitar. That's one of the nicest tops I've seen on a modern Lester. It's as good as the tops on those Finnish and German guitars.

Wow!
That is one of my fave LP tops...love the streaks and the darker "slightly overdone cheese pizza" burst. I'd love to have one like it, or that one!
I got my '03 Murphy aged R9 Stinger from Mark's, and have a '04 R7 enroute from him this week.
I absolutely agree that LP's coming from Mark's place are something special indeed!

Congrats,
S.

As it happens, I had access to a couple of examples of JG's work for direct comparison. The R9 stood up damn well, in tone as well as looks (and yes, the color was amazingly similar to one of the JGs) which has not generally been the case with other R9s I've played. That was what inspired me to grab the Gibson, even though delivery of my own JG is imminent.
