Naylor fans, any substitutes? similar amps?
Just wondering for those who dig the Naylor sound, have you been happy with anything else.? I can't find a Naylor anywhere and want something that sounds similar.

can't top naylor tone, stay on search til you get one... or you will always want one. i finally was able to acquire one after wanting it for years. as always, a substitute will just leave you wanting your preference in a few months.
I recently got a dc-30 which i'd wanted for many years too. i just couldnt afford them until recently (thanks for my jobs salary!)

Nayor is a great amp. Not a fan of the combo, but in a 2x12 ported back cab with G12M's....now we are talkin'!

Mine is a Detroit made, serial number #150. I bought it from Joey Mazzola of the band Sponge for a killer deal. $1200 for a half stack , naylor cab w/ 4 original greenbacks and head.
Im not sure is Mr Russell still does amps, I haven't heard about him in a while. The new ones made in Texas are all the quality & tone still, they didn't miss anything. Hold out and get one eventually, you won't be dissapointed. Let me know if you have anymore questions I love talkin about these amps.

Thanks guys; Danny Russell is a good friend of mine and my first tube amp mentor- he has taught me much of what I know. I myself am a huge fan of anything he has touched-a true genius of guitar tone that man!
Danny and I almost started a company together around 8 years ago to release a locally famous circuit we called "The Bomber" -with the same box design as the Ark Aviator model which I designed -with Dan's advice on dimensions; but the money just wasn't there at the time...With my new circuit and his encouragement/advice I feel better about going it "alone" with my new partner/cab maker(and award winning artist/sculptor) Matt Schellenberg. He is a great consultant for me in all areas related to the amp business, his experience has proven invaluable. The best amp repairman I have ever met ![]() ![]()

I should mention that Ark Amps are EL-34 based and Naylors are 6L6 if I remember correctly, Arks have more bite and have a hi-cut switch and a low boost switch as apposed to a single "bite"/hi-boost switch. Both amps are very gradual in their gain structure; my fav way of doing overdrive circuits:AOK
I could have owned Danny's personal Silver Naylor full stack in the mid '90's for an amazing price but didn't jump on it...doh!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Detroit EV38 and a new build SC60. They both kill and they appear to be made the same. I would have no qualms about getting a new one rather than an old one.
Neither of mine is for sale. |

If a new one costs too much, all I can suggest is that you watch Ebay literally every day and hope you get lucky!!!

Apparently have a blown output trannie. Any suggestions for replacement? Amp is a SC38 with Joe's initials on the chassis.
