eminance/ weber speakers for super reverb

G'day everyone!

I know there are already 1000 000 000 threads detailing eminance speakers on this site, however I have had trouble finding detailed discussion regarding their 10" speaker range, (the 12's cop an absolute bashing on the other hand.) I am trying to re-speaker a 67' super reverb I have just aquired which i previously posted a thread on without much luck, (although i have been terribly impatient waiting for responses.) The problem is that I need some great advice very quickly as I am gigging 4 nights a week at the moment and this is the only amp I own, (and considering it has two blown speakers you could probably see how this is a bit of a situation.) I would like to have an extremely tight bottom end response, (that is large also).... transparent tone, (no real strong coloring), and tamed highs, (not to shrill... as I am dealing with a super reverb.) Also I want very little, to no speaker break up at all. The speakers I have heard that sound great for this are Electro Voice EVM 10M, however they are discontinued and nearly impossible to come across in Australia. Are there any 10" Eminance speakers or Weber 10's for that matter... that anyone has had positive experiences with and that roughly satisfy my demands?? I am very open to any suggestions regardless of price, weight etc

Some feedback and guidance here would be greatly appreciated as there are none of these speakers in any cabs, or even at any stores where I live... creating a tough situation when attempting to make an educated purchase.

Many thanks, Dan

I don't have any personal experience in this particular case, but check this thread--sounds interesting!

I love the eminence 105s for this. I have a pair of them and a pair of eminence alnicos in my super and love it for blues, but for a great all around super I think four 105s would be great. http://www.eminence.com/guitar_speak...0&SUB_CAT_ID=4

Tommy Castro agrees with you on the four 105's.

Another vote for the Legend 105s - they do exactly what you described:

"an extremely tight bottom end response, (that is large also).... transparent tone, (no real strong coloring), and tamed highs, (not to shrill... as I am dealing with a super reverb.) Also I want very little, to no speaker break up at all."

The Ragin Cajun's are one of the best 10" speakers you could ever stick in a super reverb. They're amazing. Doug

Great sounding speakers as well as a heck of a value. They are very balanced sounding speakers, and I really like them in my '65 SR repro.

I'm doing this now, have been playing speaker games with a buddy's blackfaced SFSR. He started with 2 weber 10A100 alnicos, two kendrick blackframes. I pulled the Kendricks, tried different combinations of things, mixing and matching:

2 legend 105s ceramics
2 copperhead ceramics
2 weber 10A125 alnicos
2 weber 10A100 alnicos

I expected to like the legends matched with 10A125 speakers. Didn't happen. What does work very well is two 10A100 and two copperheads. It's sort of halfway between the all CTS alnico SR sound I've always liked and the tougher, louder sound I've heard from all-ceramic equipped SRs. The Copperheads turn out to be big favorites for me. Great warmth and excellent drive tones to go along with extra volume, bass and headroom.

We're still breaking these in. sounds pretty damn good to me.

Thanks very much for all the fantastic advice everyone. Seems as the the Ragin Cajun's and the 105's are the popular bets... has anyone used both speakers in a vibrolux/super and can compare the two??? how about two of each??? thanks again

Wink

You need to look twice at the Copperheads.
