Telecaster: mahogany vs ash body

I am looking into buying a lefty semi-hollow Tele and the choices I have are between 1) an ash body, maple neck, 2 humbuckers or 2) mahogany body, maple neck, 2 singles. I really wanted a guitar at least with one single with an ash body.

The difference between mahogany and ash is mahogany is warmer sounding and the ash is brighter. Is that the only difference? I like the brighter sound of a tele and wasn't sure if the mahogany would darken it too much.
Thanks!

The 3 tone burst is ash on the 69 RI Thinlines, the rest are mahogany.

Would there still be the bright tele sound or would the mahogany body darken it too much?

Don't discount alder, less spank than ash but more defined than mahogany. And don't forget George's rosewood Tele from The Beatles last performance. RIP, George

Doh, you're speaking about the thinline Tele, nevermind me! Although a thinline Rosewood would probably be pretty bitchin', IMHO.

The mahogany Fenders are plenty bright. They use 1 meg pots. I really dig the mahogany '69 reissues.

The humbuckers will change the sound far more than the type of wood.

Cool. Thanks for the replies. I most likely will go for the single coils, mahogany body, etc.

Thanks!
