$1500 To Spend: G&L or Fender?

I chose $1500 because if we get into custom shops, I'm sure they'll be favored over G&L... so, with $1500 to spend, would you go for Fender or G&L if they were your choices?

I'd go G&L in that price range anyday!

A base model G&L whoops on most of the Fenders and keeps up with the Custom Shops.

No love for a Suhr or an Anderson? You can get some nice used ones at that price...with extra features vs. what you have posted. Okay, to your specific question....I guess a Fender as it's probably easier to resell.

Definately G&L. The quality in there USA stuff is as good or better than anything coming out of the Fender Custom shop.

Yep, that is two mint condition G&L's, potentially a used Suhr, or for new Fender's I like the Hot Rods or Thin Skins at Wildwood

I'll just throw in another option; consider a used Grosh. THey are sometimes available for $1500.

I don't own any Fender style guitars (yet), but the one that felt the best to me was a used G&L Legacy.

1982 Fender Strat or a 1987 American Standard Strat with some bucks left over for other stuff.

G/L over Fender in what you get for your money, but I'd get a used Suhr over both anyday.

I just picked up a used G&L and have pictures posted on another thread I started today. What I think I like the best about it is the tone controls, I thin they will end up being much better then Fenders. I also think the pu's have a lot more clarity to them then Fenders, perhaps it's less midrange.

The build quality is as good as anything out there, the only thing is a lot of G&Ls tend to be heavy. Do some research and get a light one.

G+L for sure over Fender. As above also consider used Suhr, Grosh or Kirn. Good Luck!

I could not disagree with you more.
I have owned many G&Ls and they are great guitars.

However, the Custom Classic Strat I purchased 2 months ago, destroys any G&L Legacy I have ever played. This is my personal opinion. Fit and finish, playability and sound are fantastic.

Unfortunatley, unforseen expenses forces the sale of many guitars from my collection. As I am primarily a Gibson player (this is my only Fender), she's on the block.

That's a pretty good reccomendation. If you're not going custom then either of these guitars would be awesome to play, and appreciate by the time you want to sell.
