Orange Rockerverbs..... 50w head vs 212 combo?
Which do you play? I have never seen a 212 combo in person. Is it an open back beast? I really dig playing the 50w Head and Closed 212 Ext Cab.
Let's muse about the Orange a while.

I have a head. There aren't many 2x12 combo format amps that are worth dragging around, IMO. The Rockerverb doesn't qualify as one of them IMO (though the AC30 does, hehe). Crikes the head is plenty heavy on its own...pair that in a plywood cab with two Vintage 30s??? Sorry...but NFW. The RV combo has a partially open back, IIRC, and it's just too damn heavy.

In a no-lift, road cased on wheels situation...same answer?

Not only that but combos are notoriously harder on tubes. Ask any tech. You take a beast like the RV combo and play that sucker loud? With all it's gain and low-end? You'll be rattlin the ever-lovin-sh1t outta them poor tubes.

Makes sense. I could not believe the amount of low end kickin off of the head/212 on the clean side. My goodness gracious me. Insane.

Yeah, my first RV50 experience was with the 2x12 combo, but I can't believe they even make that thing. There's no way I would drag that beast around, even if they gave it to me. Same thing goes for the Orange 4x12 cab, but man what a tone monster.
I must say though that I love the Orange closed back cabs, but I prefered the open sond of the combo. So I have my RV50 head matched up with an open back Avatar Vintage 2x12. |

It don't matter how much muscle you pack, you lift something that big and heavy the wrong way once - and theres goes your back. Slipped disc, bulged disc, nerve damage. I've been around these types of injuries and it'll really screw you up man, and for the rest of your life.

Thomas - you just haven't had to play the "wrong" gig yet. The wrong gig goes like this:
1. You get there late...everyone else gets there later. 2. You're on your own and you have to lift your 120 lb roadcase out of your trunk by your lonesome. 3. You realize the only way to the stage is up a crowded, narrow staircase with a 180 dg. turn in it. Unfortunately...I had to play the "wrong" gig...with my BadCat Black Cat. Ugh. Never again. |

But the problem is the RV50 combo is in the truck, the Traynor is at your house and you're already late.
