Hi all: Received Lovelight #4 today. I play very hard - my blues style is more like Buddy Guy/Hendrix/Sayce wanna-be - so my experience with this and how the GoldBar sounds is very different than what I heard from the DonnerR vid;
I played it for awhile, not too long, so here are my initial impressions: 1) it makes things fat - similar to what the LovePedal Purple Plexi does; 2) it is very versatile; I am considering leaving this on all the time because, with low gain and unity volume settings, the strings have so much "character" - an aliveness that at first blush is hard to describe (I know it is sacralidigious to say this but here goes: it crossed my mind to bump my RC Booster, but that thought quickly went away, didn't seem "right"); 3) it gets great crunch with a high gain setting - like an overdriven Blackface Fender Deluxe (which I have experience with); I tried this: Guild Bluesbird > GoldBar > Yamaha G100 1-12 (a Yamaha solid state amp) - the goldbar turned my Yamaha into a tube amp!!!! 4) leads - with high gain - are alive; this is almost redundant; there is an aliveness factor, like what you feel with a great tube amp; 5) and finally - I stacked a Bad Monkey into the GoldBar; almost couldn't do it, it felt wrong to plug such an ugly Bad Monkey (even the name) into such a beautiful piece of work (think Favor Flave & Jessica Alba), but man - what a different sound; you know how when you stack pedals and you can hear the sound of one in the other, and vice versa? this particular stack Bad Monkey > Lovelight = a true hybrid; a different OD sound that I have not heard before that is ballsy, clear, non-humpy (this is like trying to describe the taste of vanilla ice cream to someone who has never had it); All that from a half hour of play time. I'm exhausted . . . I will update this particular post in the future. There are so many possibilities I will have to explore, e.g., MI AUdio BLues Pro into Lovelight, Purrple Plexi into Lovelight, and all the opposites to with other pedals. This pedal is going with me to the Austin Amp/Pedalfest (are you back, Mullet K?). Glad I could share this with you forum brothers and sisters. ![]()
