They do spoil you. They make it hard for me especially to look at vintage guitars- I'll pick up something that LOOKS amazing, like an old tele, and you look at the price tag...... it'll invariably be in the stratosphere... and then you play the thing, and 99% of them play like crap I find... and I sort of put them down, scratch my head, and walk away like, "why???" I just want something I can play! That sounds great!

My Suhr tele is all that. Looks great too! I love my Les Pauls but man, I have to practically gut them and start over in the electronics dept., and then get a great setup and the nut re-cut just to get them where I'm happy... that is NOT so with John's guitars..

I had a 72 tele that I played for years and years. I played an 80s strat and a 66 guild starfire but always went back to the tele. Then about 3 years ago, my wife surprised me for xmas with a Suhr strat. I've tried using the other guitars at gigs and home, but I keep coming back to the Suhr. BTW, I keep mine set up pretty high with relatively big strings, so it isn't really the ease of play that make sit so great--it just feels great and sounds great.

I owned and played a '97 NAMM show Ibanez J Custom RG Art-1 for 8 years that was amazing. My recent Suhr is equally as beautiful in the cosmetic sense but the neck carve and sonic qualities on the Standard just blew it away. I have my specs ready to order another chambered Standard in the next few weeks.

Good thread.

I played a Suhr Carve Top Standard for 4 years that John built for me himself back in 2002 and it was very nice. I also have a Rick Turner Model 1 which is also very well made and an incredible guitar.

But.........

I picked up an off the rack 50th Anniversary Strat back in 2006 and it had the mojo goin on for me. It wasn't any better made although I preferred the '54 custom shop pickups to the active EMG's in the Suhr, but the neck and the weight just suited me. It fits like a glove and although I have the utmost respect for guys like John (A very nice guy and in my opinion the best luthier in the business) I think it comes down to the feel. I've downsized my collection now and the flash stuff has gone, I'm now comfortable with a Strat and a few effects. Back to basics and full circle I guess.

Here's my (ex) Suhr..

As good as this is, it has not ruined my other guitars for me as
I luckily have other instruments of this caliber by other luthiers.

With the quality of the Suhr and many other fine guitar manufacturers, it is a great time to be
a guitar player .

My answer is yes. I have 5 Suhrs and I love em. Only my Suhrs get play time anymore.

Nothing could ruin my Hamers for me, but I really do love my Suhrs. Between these two brands, it is hard for me to buy any other LP, strat, or tele style guitars.

As much as I love Suhrs... I do share that love with a couple of other guitars I have around.

Yes and no...

My Suhr is on equal footing with my McNaught, but both have spoiled me when it comes to off the shelf guitars.

Although it took a couple months to completely bond with it, my Suhr Standard is now my #1 guitar. The tuning sounds so sweet and it stays in tune...even with the wild temp swings we had in Dallas this winter. My USA Hamers were all over the place this winter.

Got a Modern LE on order...I'm hoping it has all the attributes of the Standard and more!

I like my Suhr, but I have other guitars that I like as much if not better. The search continues for me.
