Two Rock CR Artist.... (recording experiment)
Hey Guys,
well i was fiddling around with recording my TR CR Artist. I don't really have a "real" recording setup per se, but I rigged up an XLR to 1/8" converter into my Powerbook, plugged in a really old cheap Shure Dynamic mic, and got garage band rolling. I didn't focus a ton on playing anything really cool or anything, just tried to convey some decent ideas and get a good tone...so they're a few flubs and mess ups. I think for what I was using it turned out ok though. Soundclick page explains the setup... I added a little bit of compression in garageband... the reverb is from the amp. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/song...songID=5447093 Suggestions, Questions, and Comments are MORE than welcome. Thanks, Chris |

Good playing... I'd work on the recording quality. That kind of got in the way of the amp tone for me... Maybe a cheap firewire interface? Keep them coming though!

What guitar are you using? Pickup, neck or bridge? Speaker?
I'm hearing a little too much reverb for my tastes. (sounds far away...) Try a little delay instead. I think compression can take the edge off your tone. I prefer to hear that bite on top, and IMO compression smooths it out too much. |

Re: TWO ROCK AMP
Scott- I fully agree...I have been looking into some entry level recording interfaces... any suggestions?
Jspax7- I was using a Fender Strat, Suhr V60LP pickups in the middle position, speaker cab is a TR 2x12 (non sig) with TR1265's. I agree with the reverb thing... I did overdo it a bit, some of that may be the mic placement... i'm still playing around trying to get the best sound with a little bit of the room coming into play too. Thanks for the suggestions! I should also probably change my strings....they're dead after about 5 weeks on there....that could help a little. Anyone else got any tips? |

You like the Bluesbreakers?
Actually I liked the vintage feel to the recording - Yah, Boo, Sucks, Scott! Er, where did you get that converter.....???? Best, Pete.

I put some auralex panels and bass traps in my bedroom studio. Big difference! If your room is too live, try close micing. I'm awaiting a Two Rock 1x12, and when I make my final speaker decision, I'll post some of my amps. New strings... not a bad idea.

Hi,
I usually record my guitar dry and monitor the signal with a reverb and a bit of delay. Working this way mean you leave the fx decisions to the mixdown stage. At that point when everything is present in the mix you can decide how much delay, reverb and other effects you need for the different instruments. As a rule I always start my mixing process with all instruments totally dry. That way I only add what is needed for the song. Cheers, Mats N
