Tey's Zemaitis Style Guitars
I discovered Tey's guitars last year when I ran into him on an Ebay Transaction. I was wondering if he was still building those fabulous looking guitars. I have never heard one in person. I think there have been some comments here on the gear page about his guitars from some of his clients. I remember how enthusiastic the comments were. He's in Austin. I can't remember what name he uses for his creations. He was in a band called the Barbarians of Seville the last time I talked with him last year. Anyway, I have recommended his guitars to anyone that like Tony Z's creations. His relationship with Tony has no doubt influenced his work. Maybe you ran into him at a Namm Show? Really nice guy that seems to have a real passion for what he's doing. Just a little PR for a guy in the pursuit of perfection...
It's not easy being cheesy... that's the best I got |

Oh, it appears it is Teye... sorry it's been a while. anyway, when I saw pics of his guitars last year, I emailed Vintage Guitar Magazine saying "you got to put this guy in your magazine". VGM must have been contacted by Teye because there appears to be an Ad in there. I never picked up the latest copy and have never seen the Advertisment. Maybe some day I'll be lucky enough to play one of these works of art.

Here is closeup of the body for those interested. Played it again last night at a gig and was still amazed at how big the sound is. And the sustain is wonderful. Everyone reacts to this instrument, even folks who are not interested in guitars. Lot's of fun.

Hello this is Teye
Hello everybody, and thank you so much for the very kind reactions to my instruments!
In response to the questions, the scale is a Fender one, and the neck is nice and wide, yet not too deep. I build these guitars to please ME, and I always liked a guitar where the player decided the goings-on, not the guitar. So on these necks you can both play very complex chords, yet bend easily. She's also great for slide techniques a la Sonny Landreth (fingering behind the slide). I always thought: when you like a guitar, let the builder just make a good one, instead of the buyer choosing all kinds of specs. Sometimes what the customer wants, may not be beneficial to the end result (Tony Zemaitis had some great stories on How To Talk The Customer Out Of .... ). But also the builder should respect particular wishes of their customers, and wherever possible get as close to those wishes as he can. I strive for tonal balance and beauty in my instruments, and think my methods achieve that. But, always eager to learn, and to experiment! Any comments, the web site teye.com has my email (or post them here) Thank all of you so very much! Sincerely, Teye |

Hey Cypress,
I am the owner of Teye's # 8. Could not agree more with Alan. These are special guitars. Whenever you pull it out of the case the OOOOhs and AAAHs start happening. I brought #8 to Vegas a few weeks back and the TSA employee that inspects the luggage requested the key to my case as it had to be inspected. She looked like she hadn't smiled in years, but when she opened the case a huge grin came accross her face, she turned to me and said "I don't know much about guitars, but that is one of the prettiest things I have ever seen". Pretty damn cool that a guitar could make her day. I posted some pics of mine in another forum. but here's a link for your perusal. Davo http://www.flickr.com/photos/davogtr...7600280760626/ |
