Using a Princeton style amp at home
I am well aware of the issues when using a tube amp at home or in the basement, even for a 5 watter ( I use a Gibson GA-5 at 1/3 volume) . I was wondering if a 12w Princeton style amp with some pedals would sound passable with volume around 3 +/-

Yes. You might be better off with a Princeton, rather than a Princeton Reverb, but my '68 PR is quite respectable at very, very low volumes. However, the volume jumps precipitously very early on, after which it's NOT living-room volume.

I am probably going to get jumped here, but this is my fav. at home amp. Great attenuator. Records very well. Has a very functional XLR out. Takes pedals wonderfully. Draw backs...the built in pedals (OD and Compression) are lackluster and it is fairly expensive.

I should add that I mainly use a HB Gibson scale guitar. Next in like in a P90 Gibson scale.
About the Princeton Recording Amp. I've read a couple of reviews where the users swapped the tubes and built-in effects worked much better. One installed a set of JJs from Eurotubes.

I have swapped out the stock tubes (6V6s) with NOS RCAs and the preamp tubes with some good ones I have had in my stash...hue improvement in tone, but I didn't notice any difference in the effects..I am very picky when it comes to OD and compression, though.
