Komet 60... just amazing
I've have now had my Komet 60 for a few month and am constantly impressed with the sounds from this amp. I had an interesting evening last week which really summed it up. I had rehearsal with my blues band which plays jazzier blues tunes (Robben Ford, Derek Trucks, etc..). I used my Komet with a 2X12 OS Bogner with Hellatone 30's and a Boss DD-3, that's it. The songs are very dynamic and the other guitar player didn't show so we were playing as a trio with a vocalist. I had to cover quite a bit of ground with out the second guitar player and really used the dynamic qualities of the amp with loud screaming solos and quieter textured sections to allow the vocal to come through. I was just using the guitar volume and pickup selection to get all my sounds. The amp sounded great and the solo tone was perfect with the creamy overdrive this amp is known for.
I immediately had rehearsal with another band, a singer sound writer type who plays acoustic guitar. I usually use an old tweed Fender Pro amp and my late 50's tele plugged straight in for this gig but didn't have time to go home and get my other rig so... I went with my Komet and Les Paul. I didn't adjust anything on the amp, just adjusted the volume on the guitar (amp volume was still set to around 1 o'clock on the Komet, no DD3 for this). The rehearsal was at one of the guys place of business with no pa and acoustic acoustic guitar, literally unplugged acoustic talking level. There was a whole band but the level was never louder than conversation. The guitar sounded great, warm with tons of tone even at that very low level. The amp was responsive to all my subtleties even with the guitar at 3. I was blown away at being able to use this amp for such diverse situations back to back and get such a variety of great tones with just a guitar and an amp. |

Sounds awesome, one of the amps I want to try the most. That and the Concorde.

Gald to see your post, Blue Kind--and great review of your Komet 60!
BTW, it was great meeting you the other night and comparing your Komet 60 to my Concorde (now sold, so sad) and swapping around speaker cabs. I really liked how you were able to get all your sound from your hands and the guitar volume knob, from a whisper to a scream--in Komet style! |

Thanks Mudslide. I need to come by and try some of your other great amps. It was fun to do the side by side 60/Concorde comparison. Both great amps with similar Komet characteristics. Just love the designs of these amps.

I don't use a Komet (NICE AMP, btw!!), but that's how I like to do things....dynamics, crunch tones, voicing....all controlled with my fingers and the controls on the guitar. Of course, I'll step on a wah and a chorus pedal set for Leslie effects every now and then, too.

The K60 is one of my all-time favorite amps. A modern classic IMO. :AOK
