Marshall grind needed.

Looking for a pedal to cop Marshall tones. With the gain down, give me AC/DC Let There Be Rock. With the gain in the middle, give me Judas Priest British Steel or Rush All The Worlds A Stage (yeah I'm old). With the gain up high, give me Satriani's tone when he was using the 6100s. Lots of controllable feedback and harmonics, and thick juicy saturation. JCM800 character in general, I'm not real real picky or looking to split hairs. What do you use for your Marshall tones when you're using pedals through a clean amp? Any ideas? Thanks!!

MI Audio Crunch Box. supposedly replicates those JCM800 tones very well. either way, it's GREAT for Marshall grind.

it's a bit saturated for AC/DC, even at low gain, but for those Satch 6100 tones, it's hard to beat.

I've been using the Catalinbread SCOD since I sold my Shredmaster. I play thru a 100w JMP set to clean and I get my crunch from the SCOD. We play quite a few AC/DC tunes and it nails it. Besides the SCOD, I have a Toadworks Death Rattle that is 3 pedals in one (JCM 800 distortion/Tweed overdrive/clean boost) that does a good AC/DC tone. I also hear the MI Audio Crunchbox does a good job of it but I have yet to try one myself. Good luck on your quest and let us know what you decide on.

Hey Ben, you gotta check out the Menatone King of The Britains. It's a really cool pedal that'll get you damn close to the tones you're looking for...very amp-like, tons of gain, solo booster, 3 way voice control to simulate the different inputs on an amplifier...Bright, Normal, Bass. Sounds outrageous thru the clean channel of my Bad Cat combo...one of the best pedals I've ever used!

I had a crunch box and it got there. I am now getting ready to mod a DS-1 with Monte Allums CMAT Tri gain mod. You can check his site for clips as well to see if it is what your after, and if it is what a bargain!

marshall guv'nor

The marshall guv'nor does it beautifully, as you would hope with a pedal with that name. I'm talking about the original blackbox from the 80's. If you can find one on ebay, they aren't even that expensive (less than $120 almost always). It's hard to beat, imo!

I had an SCOD and found it turned to mud when I rolled down the volume knob... I will be getting a Crunch Box as soon as my ship comes in!

Crunch box but i even like the Tube zone better. More versatile than the C.B. I play in a cover band, from Highway to hell to Enter sandman.:RoCkIn

For me, the best Marshall pedals are as follows

1 MIA Crunch Box [late 70's metalpanel tones with lots of gain]
2 Zvex BOR [JTM-45, loose bottom end]
3 Marshall Guvnor [JCM-900, 2000 type tones]
