Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'm not a fan of the Deluxes drive channel, so I'd like something that has the same basic setup as the Blues Jr and takes pedals well. I'm going to check out the Blues Deluxe and I'm open to higher end stuff. Last edited by Redhouse-Blues; 07-27-2007 at 02:26 PM. |

The bigger cabinet and extra speaker really make the sound better than a stock Blues Jr. The volumes about the same though, I believe. |

I bought a Blues Deville with the same goal.. I found it's 60 watt output too much for my needs. I was not getting good tone with the volume on 1 or 2
I replaced the 6L6 output tubes with 6V6 for an output of about 22 watts.. Juuuust right! |

How about the Peavey Classic 30 (with a Celestion V30 or G12H30 speaker upgrade if you go the combo route)? I picked up a NIB C30 tweed head from GC for $341 a couple of months ago with my 10%-off coupon.

Here are the amps I bought and returned in the period of a month (Guitar Center hates me): Pro Jr., Blues Jr. Tweed Ltd. Ed., Blues Deluxe. Finally settled on a used Peavey Classic 30 retubed by dougstubes.com and a Hellatone 30 (broken-in G12H30 70th Ann.) which I have since broken in quite a bit more. I love the amp - for an inexpensive, not-on-par-with-boutiques-but-still-really-good, 30 watt amp that is only a few inches wider than the Blues Jr. - it really cooks. Lots of head room with that tube/speaker setup and sounds amazing with my strat when cranked. If you need an OD channel (which I don't, really) the Classic 30's OD is far better than a HRDX.
