Good amp tech in NYC area

I am hoping for a referral to a good amp tech in the NYC area. I just
need someone to bias the amp for me (Rivera R55) but while they have it I will ask them to give it a good going over as well. Thanks.

wow - that is really sad to hear in a city like NY. I should probably ask the tech I use for my guitar work. I wish I could find a guy like him. He works out of his house and for simple things like setups and stuff that is not very complicated you bring it to him and he does it while you wait. His prices are very reasonable and the guy is great (and a nice guy as well).

I'm not sure about amp techs, but in NYC, Norio Imai is on 22nd street. If Norio is good enough for Keith Richards and the like...... I have never had better, cleaner work done by anyone.

For service, Umanv's down on Bleeker street also does a good job.

What do you mean by NYC area?
Jimmy Somma at www.sommatone.com in New Jersey is great. From vintage Fender amps to modern channel switchers. He's my go to for amps.

The problem with Manhattan is that property prices are too much for a pure guitar amp repair shop - despite this you'll see a number of answers with peoples favourites for the area.

Best, Pete.

now you guys are cooking. I live in Brooklyn and don't mind a little driving if necessary but not to upstate NY. I have heard of Jimmy Somma. I will check into Norio too. Thanks for the tips.

Jimmy Somma is excellent! REALLY knows his stuff. A little closer to Brooklyn is John LeBrio on Staten Island. He's very good but the wait can get pretty long with him. He's very close to the VZ bridge in South Beach. PM me if you want his number. I don't have it currently but I can get it with a phone call! One other guy worth mentioning is Dennis Kager at Central Jersey Music Repair in Edison, NJ. Dennis worked at Ampeg with Ken Fischer back in the day and designed Sundown amps and the G40V for Pignose I believe!.

I recently had my vintage marshall at rocknrollamps.com. Jack is a Master in his field and probably the best kept secret in the amp world. Check out his site, give him a call and just check out his amps in person you'll be blown away.

I'm twenty minutes from Manhattan and ten minutes from Giant Stadium, and would be glad to service your amp. I do it by appointment, but I will do it. I think I know what I'm doing.

Andy, I didn't realize that you still serviced amps! My apologies, not many know more than you, mate.

Best, Pete.

I do it: A) by appointment and B) based on what it is.

You hang a service sign up and you're fixing line-6 midi trash or microwaves and VCR's before you know it.

I service what I do best (a "normal" conventional good 'ol tube amp), that I can make a fair buck for my time on, and what will make a customer happy.

IMO the best guy to go to for amp repairs in Manhattan is Matt Wells. His shop is located underneath the Magic Shop recording studio.

I go to John Charette of Charette electronics (718-915-4343) in Williamsburg, Great guy. He's done great work on my Blackface DR, Silverface PR, and a ton of other stuff.
