The reason I'm asking is because Ibanez just released an 8 string guitar that looks pretty intriguing:

I might pick one up if there is anything to do with it rather than just play nu metal on the low strings...Figured somebody around here might know what to do with those 2 extra strings and not sound like Korn :-)

Cool. What's the estimated street price of those? How are you going to tune it? I wish you luck finding good 8-str resources. I had a hard enough time finding 7-str resources (at least for tuning to low A rather than low B).

From what I understand...it's 27inch scale and tuned F#,A,D,G,C,F,A,D

It comes Strung w/ 009,011,016,024, 032,042,054,065

The street price is somewhere between 1300-1500. But they are kind of hard to find right now. Last I read, Ibanez only released a first batch of about 50 to the entire globe.

Search for Robert Conti. I know he plays an 8-string on solo gigs, and I think he has an instructional book or video about it. I believe he uses the same configuration of strings as well (I'm going on memory here).

Thanks...I didn't even think of him. That would great if he has an instructional video.

I once saw his signature BC Rich custom shop 8 string guitar on display at cowtown guitars in Vegas. Wow, that was a beautiful guitar.

I picked up a 8 string, 36 fret Conklin off ebay a few years back. It was too much for me and I was never able to tune the 8th string up to A, even with a .006. I sold it after about a year.
