Anyone like a PIGNOSE G60VR?

I am looking for a small tube amp cheap to use as a backup to my Alessandro 2x12 Doberman. I picked up a used USA Blues Jr but I am not in love with that "Hot Rod" series sound and a friend plays the Pignose 40 watt amp and loves it. I figured Id check out the 60 watt version. I know the speaker and tubes need to go but after that will it be a reasonable sounding amp?
Thanks

I had one about 5 years ago. After I put a Celestion G12T-75 in it and changed out the tubes it was a great sounding amp. So good I wish I hadn't sold it now. If you can live with the one channel go for it.

Thanks for the response
Would you characterize the sound as Marshally or more Fender or a mix?

As you are wanting an upgrade from the Blues Jr., how about a Classic 30 with a quality speaker and tubes?

I have a Reverend Hellhound, same circuit as the pignose, but I like it a lot better. It cuts through the mix and pretty much keeps up with anything else I own.

Any other pignose owners or folks who have tried them?

Thanks to all who have chimed in so far.

Nope. Here's an accurate comparison:

It has a sound of it's own. I remember it as being a small amp that sounded huge.

I had both the Pignose 40 and the Classic 30. The Pignose sounded better, going from a Fendery clean to a Marshally crunch, to use an overused cliche.

Both mine were stock, with the exception of upgraded tubes in the C30. At the time I had both I mainly played a G&L Legacy Special, which just sang through the Pignose.

Here's my take: the Pignose sounds a lot better than the Classic 30. But the limitations were too much: one channel, no reverb, and no effects loop. It had master volume, though, so you could set the crunch right and use the volume control.

I sold both, but if I had to have one again it would be the C30, just because of the channel and fx options.

I played through one. It sounded OK by itself, and exponentially better through a closed back 2x12 cab.

Picked up a Pignose 40 on Ebay for $199 plus shipping. Had Groove tube 6l6's and I put some EH 12ax7's in it and it sounds really good!
Go figure
