Advice on Wood

I've decided that re-building a guitar is not the way to go for me. I've decided to build one from scratch. My question, much like the one I asked in a previous post, is what kind of wood should I use? Which one has the best sound? I assume a hard wood is better than Soft Wood, am I right? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here are two very good descriptions of tone woods:

http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/option..._bodywoods.cfm

And lets not forget about neck/fretboard woods either:

What kind of music do you play? Which scale do you prefer? What pickup(s) do you plan on using? Who are your favorite artist(s)? What kind of amp(s) will you be using?

if you haven't done this before, an alder body (softwood) with a maple/rosewood neck (boring) will pretty well guarantee you a 'normal' gutar voicing and a wide range of parts choice. It will probably sound OK. Maybe not exaclty what you are looking for, but if you EVER find the formula for predeterming the tone from the component choice, patent/market the process and retire.

I would recommend that you buy wood from somebody like Guitar Mill. You can buy a body blank. The reason for this is to get wood that has been properly dried and is of a good wieght for guitars. It is hard to get good guitar wood from you local hardware store. Most of the stuff you find there will be too heavy.

I think one of my favorite tonewood recipes would be a hard rock maple neck, Indian rosewood fretboard, and a Honduran mohogany body.
