Rocktron Xpression vs. TC gmajor

Anyone had experience with these units. Looking for one that I can turn indiviual effects on and off via midi and has the ability to set a boost for soloing.

you can do all those things with both units. the rocktron sounds a lot better but has less features than the tc. tc has the programmable relay and a tuner. rocktron does not. tc is super easy to program, rocktron is kinda easy to program. rocktron sounds a whole lot better.

I put this spreadsheet together when I had the G-Major. It shows all the functions and gives an example of how you can set it up for individual effects ... to be turned on and off seperately. If you don't have Excel, you can download the viewer from my page.

I don't have hands on experience with either, but I did a bit of research on them when I considered getting one or the other. As tempting as the relay on the G-Major is, I read enough posts about knobs falling off and other glitches. I also read where some had no problems at all, but I read enough negatives to steer me clear.

Had both, I thought the xpression was easier to use and sounded a bit better. The xpression also has a analog dry signal path.

So it is possible on the xpression to set up one nice patch with a good chorus, delay, verb, etc. and turn them off individually?

I currently have both and play thru a Diezel Herbert. I am totally anal about the tone of my amp and TC G Major adversely colored the sound of my amp too much. On the other hand, I ran the Xpression thru the serial loop and the effects are nice & transparent and when bypassing you retain your amp sound. I will never let a piece of gear alter the tone of a $4K amp and the TC did so it was kicked to the curb! Buy the Xpression...it is $100 cheaper then the G Major anyway! Cheers

So if most of you guys think the Xpression is the way to go, which midi controller and xpression pedal do you recommend to use with it? Can you set up individual patches like, a chorus patch, delay patch, reverb patch and then use the xpression pedal to control how much chorus, how much delay and how much reverb? Like the question above, if you put all of them in one patch, can you control the amount of each and turn them off on the fly?

Hi,

Does anyone have a spread sheet for the Xpression presets? It would be so much easier to use if one could easily identify which of the 128 presets have which functions turned on. Otherwise, it is hit or miss. Even a list of the preset names would be a little useful.

Thanks,
Andy

I have both... I'm keeping both. They don't sound the same hence why I'm keeping both. Either one may affect tone a little bit but, IMO not in a bad way. The Rocktron is less worry free (has less switches--less to break). If you're going to play out often, go for the Xpression. The TC will work at home just fine (and for the occasional gig). I also beg to differ and think the Rocktron is way easier to program than the TC.

I have the Xpression. Got it for great price on Craigslist. But I don't like the little stutter when switching presets. Does the Gmajor do this?

I use the Xpression simple. One preset is with the hush. 2 is the same with delay. And 3 is like 2 with some pitch shift for solos. I use the other 'extras' when I am at home and want to play around.

I think you got one of the defective earlier "not made in USA" Xpression models, which may also explain the great price on Craigs list.

I bought mine new in 2006 from Tunnelvision Music & have never had a sputter, I also own an earlier MIA Multivalve & it's as smooth as FX processors come.

Personally I don't like TC Multi-FX for guitar at all (hate the coloration), but hey that's just me

Is there anything you can do to get rid of the sputter?
