5E3 Tweed Deluxe sound
Tell me an artist, or a track or an album that captures this sound.

Neil Young is known for using Tweed Deluxes almost exclusively.
The myspace in my sig has some tunes, and I believe about 90% of those tracks, (the electric guitar) is my 5E3 clone chassis in a 1x15 cab. |

Billy Gibbons, early ZZ Top.
Black Crow's (right?)

I don't think Neil Young's tone captures the 5E3 sound at all. He does use them, but AFAIK they are heavily modified and use 6L6's.
Search "tweed deluxe" on youtube - there are quite a few vids. Here's a vid of the Black Crowes and a couple 5E3's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA_Q19HFQig |

I read that Gibbons early tones are all Plexi.

Nobody really knows what Mr. Gibbons used.
That said I'm pretty sure that I can hear some tweed some plexi stuff on the early albums. |

Steve Cropper, on many old R&B tunes out of Memphis, maybe most notably with the Blues Brothers. Telecaster and tweed Deluxe baby.

Definitely a lot of Tweed on the Black Crowes' records but they also use a lot of Marshalls and 4X12s too.

Larry Carlton, Grant Green, U2 - lots of blues players... my point is that you can do alot with a good 5E3, I have a Vicky and the cleans are really sweet - of course when you crank it it really sounds great but there is a lot to be desired in a tweed deluxe.

Mark Knopfler uses lots of different amps these days, but listen to his last couple solo albums. There is juicy tweed deluxe all over them. Some of the best I have heard. Good to hear the amp in some other context besides straight ahead blues and blues rock.
