The H&K Tubefactor has a very explosive attack, which helps. I use a high output JJ 12AX7, which seems to add to the effect. I think there are other places in the chain to get sag, as pedals are usually pretty true. An oversized sealed cabinet with a modern style speaker like the V30 seems to help. Light strings or tuning-down seems to help as well. Noodly strings make noodly tone. Lighter wood in a guitar may add to the saggy feeling as well.

Nothing beats an amp with good sag.

Try one of the new Menatones---specifically the Workingman's Blue. About as thick as you can get and includes a pretty impressive sag control.

I could be off base, but to me the Klon has all that.

I think the Ibanez Fat Cat Distortion takes care of this.

I guess this is a Menatone thing because you just described my Dirty Blonde. Very saggy and amp-like.

jamison,

The two best pedals I have played that do this are the Lovepedal Eternity and the Cornish SS2 or 3.

Lots of pedals do the thick and clear thing, but I haven't found many that do sag.

The BJF Honey Bee Overdrive is everything you ask for. It does have a syrupy kind of gain that may not be to everyone's liking and there isn't loads of gain on tap, but you do get an incredibly thick, amp-like response and wonderful sag and bloom.

The Durham Crazy Horse is thick and saggy. Whether it is clear or not is a matter of what is meant by that. It gets the Neil Young sound pretty well, but set differently can do Zeppelin nicely also. (Yes, I happen to be selling one in the Emporium, but my description is fair.)
