Wanted: Dirty-sounding delay

If I were to venture back into delay I think I would need something noticably dirty sounding on the repeats. What are some pedals that sound dirty on the repeats- not overall crappy- just something you can really notice when it's on... like Neil Young's nasty delay.

Get an oil-can delay. The lowest of the lo-fi, and the coolest of the cool.

Google "tel-ray" and "oil can" for the history, mystery and lore.

Swampy would be another good adjective for what I'm looking for.

The Line6 Delay modeler has some pretty 'dirty' sounding analog and tape delay models. I use one for the beginning of hard days night by the beatles. When I karrrannnggg that opening chord on a the Ric 360/12, it's unmistakeably 'beatles.'

A lot of his live electric stuff. And the soundtrack to "Deadman." Very cool tones.

I've just been doing some looking at the oil-can style of delays. Wow! What an interesting effect! I'm definitely adding one of these to my list of required gadgets.

Another vote for the SPF I5 delay. You can get some really gritty repeats with that box. And it's got an effects loop. You can run a fuzz or distortion in the loop if you wanna get real dirty.

Is that chord an F with a G on top? Lots of lore surround that intro...
