My DS-1

Hello

I have a Boss DS-1 from nine years ago. Havent used it in a long time.
It needs to be cleaned but I played it with my Vox AC15cc and Gibson 335 and found the sound to be horrible. It sounded thin and weak. Is there anything I can do to make this pedal sound better or should I sell it? I dont want to spend alot
of money on mods, 50 dollars is fine, so should I have it moded or should I sell it?
If modding is good, what kind of mod should I do and where should I have it done?

Help!

+1 on this mod. I also added the Tri-Gain to the Rectifier mod. Best mod ever and the price can't be beat.

For $75, you can send it to Keeley Electronics.

Hey g335,

I would recommend Analogman's DS-1 Super mod (MIJ pedals only) or Pro mod or Pro/midrange mod. The Pro/midrange mod adds an external midrange mod next to the tone knob. My DS-1 in the picture above has the Analogman Super mod since my pedal is an '83 DS-1 with the 14 pin chip. These pedals sound a lot warmer than the current MIT versions. Analogman's Super mod improved the range of the tone control, made it much quieter and has that cool distortion to it. I'm interested in buying a used MIT DS-1 pedal and getting the Analogman Pro/midrange mod to compare it to.

+2 on Monte's work! I've got two pedals with his mods--well worth it IMO. Here's Monte's mod page: http://www.monteallums.com/Product_links.html

If you need someone to do it for you, here's his authorized tech: http://www.cmatmods.com/portal/Home/...5/Default.aspx

EDIT: I just saw you already have the first link

I think IMO that the pedal is just plain hopeless.
I did a mod on a new Boss sd-1 and it changed it's character only slightly, the basic nature of the pedal was unchanged.

If you really like a DS-1, save up for an old Japanese one.

FWIW, the AC/15//Gibson combo is not the best platform for this pedal. IME these pedals take to closed-back cabs better.

Run an EQ with it. Place them close enough together that you can step on both at the same time. Works like a charm.
