reeves or fuchs or...

im looking at the Reeves custom 6, the fuchs lucky 7, and the fargen miniplex, and maybe.. just maybe, the tiny terror, although from the numerous clips online it appears to be a dark amp which I would like to avoid.

i want some punchy, chunky, midrange snarling marshall sounds.
heck I suppose I could actually just get a marshall, but volume is also an issue. will be used for recording in a small not-very-soundproofed walk-in closet/recording booth!
my budget is about 1000 and some change... and lack of clean headroom doesnt bother me... looking for grind here, the greasier the better.
any suggestions?

I like the Reeve Custom 18 Combo with power scaling.

Fargen Miniplex looks nifty though features

Lucky 7 is more limited, but reviews say great tone.

Trust your own ears.

Are you getting just the head or a combo?

Miniplex is a great little amp. Great bang for the buck, and certainly loud enough for small clubs (dirty).

Another option would be a Rivera Clubster/Pubster.

I would look at the D13 RSA23 1-12 combo with Master volume. Big Marshall style grind in a controllable package

I have owned a Reeves Custom 6 and presently own a Reeves Custom 18. I sold the Custom 6 when the Custom 18 was on the way. I really like both amps. With that said, I really miss the Custom 6. There was a warmth (I don't know how much of this is a function of the Big box cab of the old Custom 6's) that I can't find in the Custom 18. But there is a whole bunch of tones in the Custom 18 that I could not get in the Custom 6. I hope this helps!

thanks for the replies.

i am having a heck of a time finding any higher gain clips of the fuchs... and precious few of the reeves....but now i just saw the pubster video on the rivera site, and i do believe thats pretty dang close to the tone im going for.

im convinced the miniplex is the best bang-for-buck low wattage high gain plexi style head out there, but its still a little out of my budget (unless anyone wants to buy a carvin V3??!!)

so... im going to find every scrap of info I can on the pubster/clubster, but still probably keep saving cash for the fargen.
sigh.
i hate looking for amps. its much easier accumulating guitars.

Do your home work when it comes to the Clubster 25. While the clean sounds were great, the overdrive channel, IMO - had something to be desired. From what I read, it wasn't totally tube. But . . . the other guitar player loved it . so try to hear one before you buy.

FYI - I bought and sold it without a problem.

The Allen Class Act (now out of production) was a little Marshall monster for not much more than $500 assembled. Single ended, so only about 7 watts. For a recording amp the (also discontinued) ADA A20R was a killer 12w, single ended amp with reverb.
