Best bang/buck ratio I've found recently are Tonerider pickups. Look up Ralph Halsey's ad in the Manufacturer & Dealer's Emporium.

If you were headed towards Seth Lovers, give the Tonerider Alnico IV Classic set a look. Great vintage PAF sound!

Pete Biltoft at www.vintagevibeguitars.com makes great pickups that are ridiculously affordable.

Plus, he's a nice guy, to boot!

+1 on GFS pickups from Guitarfetish. Dirt cheap and sound pretty good.

as if you need more suggestions, Bill Lawrence's single coils are crazy cheap and first class -- i'm crazy love 'em in my tele. can't speak to his buckers, but you might look 'em up on harmony central or something. he's got a website....

My comments are aimed at finding good bang-for-the-buck humbuckers...

Though I know it's not a popular opinion here, I've always had good luck with Dimarzio. Just do your research and get the one that gives you the tone you're looking for.

I've also had very positive experiences with High Order. Though they've gone up a little, his prices are very reasonable for hand wound pickups.

Nuff said... get your own customized specs. No trial and error, what you want for a bit more than "experimenting" with pickups.

Buy the best pickups you can. It's gonna be hard enough to change pickups in a 335 type guitar, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to upgrade to something you'll just have to upgrade again.
