How about a definitive H/S/S thread?

OK, we have many threads where people discuss differnet ways to wire a H/S/S guitar. I have not been able to find any though with a schematic that would work for me.

I have Lollars in my Strat and standard wiring with 250k pots. It sounds great. Occasionally I drop a Hot Rails stacked humbucker in the bridge position so I can cover a greater range of material with the one guitar. I always end up taking the HB out because it is too muddy with the 250k pots. I would like to use the humbucker in the bridge position but have the tone of the neck & middle single coils remain unaltered.

People have mentioned adding a 500k pot & resistors in other threads but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this without a schematic. Does anyone have a schematic or "H/S/S for Dummies" instructions I might use?

Let me start this with a schematic that a TGP'er was nice enough to send me. It's a single vol. / single tone setup. If anyone has one for a vol/tone/tone / 5-way switch Strat setup that would be great.

Awesome thread. I have a Benson HSS, with master volume, master tone, and a bridge pup engage switch.

What kind of switch is that you have on the schematic?

Holy crap. I'd need a degree in switchology to wire that up.

Most excellent.

Dumb question, but I'm assuming you can't do this with a conventional 5-way Strat switch? I'm going to break down and order the parts and see if I can fight my way through the wiring.

-250k tone pot = Positions 2-5

-500k volume pot = All positions (does a resistor make the singles see 250k?)

Interesting thing to me about those superswitches is that after all that wiring, you still only have five sounds.

5 clicks = 5 sounds I guess. You could always use some kind of push/pull pots or mini switches.

For me 5 is plenty. I just want to get the humbucker to play well with the single coils.

I built two Strats so far using that diagram. One has Suhr's DSV/V60LP/V60LP, the other has Fralin's - Unbucker/Blues/Blues and I'm putting another together with a Fralin Unbucker/Suhr FL/FL. I kind of got into a H/S/S thing lately and I'm loving it.

Do you happen to have a pic. of your wiring job? I'd be interested to see how it all looks hooked up.

Well I don't plan on restringing for a while so you'll have to wait.

I'm pretty sure thats the diagram from John Suhr. I wired up my Strat using the 1st diagram ie 1 vo, 1 tone. Its not as complicated as it first appears - most of the wires are for shorting together various pins on the megaswitch. Pos 2 gives one coil of the humbucker with the middle single coil. I used a Seymour Duncan 59 in the bridge along with the stock American Series single coils in the middle and neck, and those pickups all play nicely together.
