Fulltone Fatboost 2/ GT500

All I can say is if this new pedal is half as good as the left (boost) side of the GT500, Fulltone has another winner. I'm very curious to see if the new Fatboost 2 is the left side of the GT 500.

I have posted a couple of times how I think he left side of the GT 500 is one of the best boosters out there. No one agrees it seems but it would be interesting to get a response from some fellow GT500 owners.

I have been on a weeks holiday and have squeezed in some time for uniterupted guityar playing and pedal testing. Damn this is fun.

I haven't heard the GT500, but I do remember reading a number of people saying the "boost" side was excellent and the better of the two.

Should be interesting to find out if indeed the Fat Boost 2 is in fact the boost side of the GT500 ... by the control layout they sure look similar. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised, but it will likely take someone with both pedals to give a definitive answer.

Plexihead, where do you live? I'm in Oakville.

i just ordered the Fat Boost 2... and I'm hoping that it's just like the boost side of the GT 500. My guess is it will be close. The boost on the GT is one of the nicest I've used. It's also a sweet overdrive...

It's definitely not the same as the fat boost. It's a leaner boost, more transparent. And I would say it is the best boost I've used so far. I like it better than the Katana, the FatBoost and the Launch Pad I've had in the past. It's EQ is just sweet and tasty. You can put a little hair on the signal with gain knob or keep it pure and clean. Very flexible. I just can't find something I like the distortion side of the unit.

Greg at Solid Gold FX is building me something that's more like just the boost side of the GT-500 so I've got my GT-500 up for sale, Canadians only right now.

The boost side of the GT-500 is the best I've used yet - and I've been at this for a very long time!

You only need to visit Mike's site to find the following statement re: the GT and FBII:

Folks have been asking if the Boost/OD side is a FatBoost...No, completely different circuit (twice the FET's) with more headroom, more gain and more available Clean as well as distorted signal, as well as a Pre-Clipping Bass control and excellent High control..

Hope that helps!

He's talking about the original FB in that statement. It was put up when the GT500 came out, which was before the new FBII was released so it doesn't apply (for instance, the FBII does have a pre-clipping bass control).

PSA:

I heard from Fulltone that the FB II and the boost side of the GT are the same circuit. Good to know, as the boost side of the GT is awesome, and the FB II is at an affordable price point.

It truly is a great boost. Crank up the Drive on the boost side and you have a fantastic O/D pedal. (As I already gushed above)

I know this question is veering towards OCD (pun intended), but has anybody actually A-B'd the new Fatboost II against the boost side of the GT-500? I'd like to hear from someone who doesn't work for Fulltone that these circuits truly sound identical.

mine should be here today... I owned the GT but sold it because I couldn't get into the gain side. I'll know very quickly if it's the same. I almost kept it for the boost side!

You should be aware that there have been mods to the FBII and GT. One mod for both provides a deeper cut on the bass EQ - it's the exact same mod. So, depending on what "vintage" you get, you may be comparing apples/oranges on the bass EQ front.

For those that did not bond with the distortion side of the GT, there are a couple of mods that have been released to improve it. I think the biggest challenge for some players regarding the GT is the extraordinary range of tonal options.

Can you explain more about this? And are these mods for customers to do, or are they mods that have been incorporated into currently shipping models.

Thanks,
