Power conditioning?

Lately I've been dealing with dirty electricity. I get noise in the amp, in the pedals, ground loops sometimes (?), just symptoms of dirty power. What is out there that will clean up the juice? I'm powering everything with a Dunlop DC Brick. Would a PP2 or Valvulator be a better choice, or is there something I can use to contidion the power short of dragging a rack unit with me everywhere?

Furman and Monster both make floor based power bars with conditioning. Could be the DC brick also as it doesn't have isolated taps - do you still get as much noise with batteries or separate power supplies? Could also just be bad power in your house or some kind of interference like lights or a fan.

AMEN ! haha ive bee having similar probs....some nights my amp sound saggy, and brittle, others amazing...

got this from a fellow GP'er

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3Den%26sa%3DN

voltage regulator fits for me seemingly (havent got one yet) but a good start as clean 120v seems like a must? also try ebay for some used ferman power conditioners etc. that would help "filter" power....im my research it seems like getting the 120v is more of the issue as alot of places have not very stable or "well wired" power. but maybe someone with some more technical knowhow can chime in..

The PowerFactor Pro does NOT do voltage regulation, but rather, line conditioning, cleanup, and current buffering, to provide a steady current flow to your gear. It will handle voltage spikes or drops. If voltage regulation is the problem, then you'd want the AR-15 II - I believe that's the new model#.

But keep in mind that the PFP does things the AR-15 doesn't, which will directly impact the performance of your amp and gear, ie: an easily heard difference in tone and feel, ie: improvement - at least I heard it clearly.

Many people use both units... the PFP into the wall, and the AR-15 into the PFP - the order is important and this was told to me by Furman Tech Support.

I suggest going to the Furman website and reading the details - it's worth it and good knowledge to have.

So would you knowledge-endowed persons reccommend this:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PRO200d/

or

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/M8/

?

I've got space under my board, I could work the Furman under there..

I would not recommend either.

If you want conditioning, go withthe Furman Power Factor Pro. If you want power regulation, go with the Furman AR15 II.

This is what has always got me, why do we have to go with rack setups to get decent power regulation? It kinda blows we can't have a power conditioning/power regulation device that's somewhat space conscientious for the non rack guy. Jeez, if Furman could release a 2 in 1 for $500 or so, they'd probably sell a ton of them.

Ryan... neither of those - you get what you pay for. I would avoid Monster - just my opinion - you're paying more for the name than product.

BTW, you can get a PowerFactor Pro in a floor unit, but it's a bit big and clunky, but if you put it behind your amp it's a non issue.

PFPs are around $200 and a used one is just fine.

I can say that Monster's "Clean Power" filtering does work to a certain degree, but I can't say I've compared it to Furmans. Looks like I've got a new product to buy

I use one of these units:

APC AV H10 Power Conditioner

It is for designed fo high end A/V components. However, it works fantastic for all my guitar gear. I hook up my 100 Watt tube amp, and all of my effects. The unit not only provides clean, filtered power, but MOST IMPORTANTLY it regulates voltage by continuously correcting for undervoltage (or high voltage)...thereby providing a continuous 120V power supply to all your expensive gear. So, it if not just a Power conditioner...it is a true voltage regulator.

Haha, ok, seriously.

AR15 II: $649.95
Power Factor Pro: $379.97
M8: $55.97

I don't need the end-all-be-all of power conditioners, just something to clean it up and level it out.

The M8 will do nothing for you. Seriously. I have aksed many a sales rep about Furman's lower end products. It is really just a glorified power strip and has little effect on noise.

I got the AR15 II for $450 on ebay and it was new. I have seen the Power Factor Pro for $250 new.

I would go with the Power Factor Pro as it has been reported to reduce noise by half. I will be getting one shortly. I think it's a worthy investment. Only get the AR15 if you are having voltage fluctuation problems (which does not seem like your case). There are two versions, a rack and a floor model.

Ryan... Are you a serious musician and discriminating consumer, playing with valuable equipment?

If so, your statement does not make sense. First of all, no one pays list price. I got both my PFPs rack units for around $240 each - about the price of a boutique pedal. The degree of protection and power quality you get from the PFP, plus the increased quality of your tone will be well worth the price of admission.

But you are the final judge of value in your world.
