Some people believe (I had a Tele & a Strat) that they rival original vintage Fender's from the 50's & 60's, as far as look/tone/feel. The two I had did so. If originals are in the tens of thousands, some people will pay $5k for something close.

Very convincing replicas cost a lot to produce in terms of time... and there's the supply demand equation being all out of whack. Combined with the vintage market's boom over the last few years, and you get 5K replicas.

Thumbs up

Nothing I've found comes as close to the feel/sound of the best vintage examples I've owned/played.

I suspect there's some truth to the story that Jonathan would go through various necks and bodies until
he found pairings that worked, sonically, because these are really consistently GREAT sounding instruments.

When Jonathan gets all of this writing/producing/performing nonsense out of his system I'm hoping that
he'll find the time to crank up the new guitar line.

I'm not very familiar with GVCG so please excuse my question. Does Jonathan make his own bodies and necks or are his guitars basically "parts" from other builders that he puts together himself?

Wait, doesn't the Fender Custom Shop make $5k+ relic strats/teles?-- Masterbuilts

Some people view GVCG as a step above FCS, with actually more hand work/attention to detail/vintage accuracy. Thus, I wouldn't say GVCGs are incredibly expensive at all.

I'm fortunate enough to have 2 GVCG's, and have had 2 others in the past. I've also owned Fender relics and a few other non-Fender made relics. All I can say is that I've never played a Tele or Strat type guitar that sound/play/feel as good to me as the best GVCG's (and I've found that to me, some GVCG's are "better" than other GVCG's). Somehow they feel and sound old, but are wonderfully playable. Very hard to go from a GVCG to something else. I actually prefer them to most of the real vintage Teles and Strats that I've played. One vintage/high end gear store owner said "compared to the GVCG's, the Fender relics feel like they're made by Mattel". I wouldn't go that far, and I've also found that other relic builders (Revelator and OLDworld) can be on the same level as the GVCG's in one respect or another, but usually not in every respect. Just my opinion. Here's a few pics of my GVCG '54 Strat. It's killer.

Imitation and flattery

I wonder what Leo would think about all this imitation? Would he be flattered?

Actually, I didn't know the answer to that question either, and I'm not particularly interested enough to use the search engine, but enough that it caught my attention here. Frankly, it doesn't really matter to me...a great guitar is a great guitar, I don't care where the pieces come from (and shaping them is a big part of it anyway).
