Blankenship Custom 45 clips.

Here are some clips of me noodling through a new Custom 45. The amp is a cross between a JTM45 and a Plexi. The mids were perfect, tons of VH type gain, but the thing that killed me was it is a master volume amp. You could drop it down to whisper level and it still had all the balls and tone. Several switches in back allowed the amp to retain the attack and feel at any volume. Sorry for the AC noise-the outlets where it was recorded are not to good. The amp was recorded with a SM57 dry-no eq. The cabs used were a vintage Marshall 4x12 cab with 25 watt greenbacks and a Marshall 4x12 cab with Vintage 30's. The Master volume of the amp was on 4, everything else was dimed.

If I was an amp builder, I wouldn't be using those clips to promote my new amp by all means.

Why not? The clips sound pretty decent to me. Not a particularly cool comment to make.

Blankenships 18 watter got some good reviews from Vintage Guitar mag,but being a "higher wattage" lover, your clups nail the soul of that amp.
Does the 45 come with the variac (like the 50 & 100 watters)?

Agreed. I should have stated that while the playing was excellent, it's just the not the sound I prefer or better left unsaid. No hard feelings. :BEER

David,

I sincerely need to apologize to you about the comment I made about your clips. I should have read your entire post before posting that comment. I judged the clips without even reading about the AC noise you were having. That is what I was pertaining to, regarding an amp bullder showcasing a new amp with all that buzzing going on. I thought your Variplex clips were excellent and I almost bought one because of those.

Roy Blankenship is a great builder and tech, IMHO. He's done a lot of work on my BF Fenders, and they're ALL better sounding for it.

I've also spent time on his Fatboy Supreme w/ Reverb. It's an amazing amp, and so is the Variplex w/ built in Variac.

Roy's one of my amp heroes. I like the clips, David, especially the Greenbacks on 90v.

Thanks, Dana O.
