Ampeg Question

I am a guitar player who has started dabbling into the bass lately. I have a Grosh J bass and an SWR Workingman's 15. I wanted to update the amp so I started looking at this new Ampeg model BA300/115. It sounds like what I am looking for but I now hear they are made in China or Viet Nam. Is this correct? Any and all advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You are correct; Ampeg has relocated their manufacturing overseas. Consequently, all reports indicate that their quality has suffered. Moreover, Ampeg product support is supposedly been moved to Washington state and in complete disarray. Thus, if you get a Chinese or Vietnamese Ampeg and it conks out, which appears to be more likely than the American made models, you are screwed twice over. That being said, if you want an Ampeg you should try to locate an American made unit. Surely, you can find these on Ebay or in your local music store. Either way, you are still going to be screwed if you need some product support. I spoke to a guy who contacted Ampeg about his USA made SVT head that had some problems. Under the warranty he sent the head back to Ampeg. Instead of fixing it, they replaced it with a Chinese made unit. He was and still fighting that battle.

I play Ampeg exclusively and luckily made all of my purchases before they cut and run. I have never had any problems with any of my Ampeg gear, knock on wood. However, if anything should arise I hope my tech will be able to handle it on his own.

If you can't find a USA built VR or an original to restore pass!

Ampeg is really blowing their legacy by getting sloppy on quality control.

OK, that is not good news. Can you suggest an amp that might suit my needs? I am really looking for around 300 watts in a combo since this is just a "hobby" but I may go the head/cab rig if the right thing is available. I don't want Chinese, Viet Namise, Korean... I think you get the picture. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The USA Classic just doesn't cut it, so the only recent USA model that's worth
a darn is the USA VR model If.... you can find one.

If you're not pressed for a gig any time soon, find an original and have it refurbished.
