Did you purchase it? Looks quite interesting. I've been curious of the build quality of Specimen.

Not buying. I roll my own. But it's too damn cool to ignore. I love the idea and the execution. How cool is that pickup, no?

I took all of Ian's courses at the the chicago school of guitar making. He is an awesome teacher with a large breadth of experience in all facets of guitar(even metallurgy!) He also uses a bunch of his previous experiences to help avoid some of the mistakes you're likely to make as a new luthier.

There was an amazing aluminum bass in his shop, completely untouched for super cheap(relatively) along with a bunch of other player's prize possessions in for repair.

Always willing to talk and help others. Hell he even fixed Keanu Reeves bass! Awesome shop and gear(check out the horn)!

Ever since I had first stumbled upon the Specimen website a few years back I have always wanted to try his instruments so badly. Hopefully I'll get around to it soon but I'd love to hear feedback from someone who has had the opportunity! I love the flame top Pippin and Freeman Royale.

This'll help the thread I think:

I took a course from Ian a couple months ago and have had some guitar work done by him and his trusty associate Jim. I'm not sure how much he promotes his products and it appears that he has only a produced a small handful of these instruments, amps, etc. The Jacobite is a one-of-a-kind from what I know and his inspiration for the inlay came from a recent trip he took to Alaska (it's a mountain range if you look at the neck horizontally). I've told him about getting on TGP over the past couple months, as he was not aware of it's existence. Interesting guy and very knowledgeable.
