Play it or display it?

I have a Ibanez Artstar 80 signed by John Scofield across the body. My right arm will wear away the signature over time. Your thoughts on displaying it or just having fun and playing it?

Thanks!

Play it. I used to own a guitar previously owned by a famous person, I didn't care I played it...eventually sold it.

Spray some clear over the sig, then play.

There was an article in Guitar Player a few months back which dealt with this. It was a Dan Erlewine column and how his repair shop helped to preserve a signature on a guitar.

Ask Webb Wilder on his website. He has a tele with several irreplacable sigs on it and it is his main touring guitar. I thought about this the other day and clearcoat was my idea as well.

Play it loud and proud.

I have a '68 SG that was autographed by the Allman Brothers Band in 1990. I started wearing Butch Trucks' signature off, so I stopped playing the guitar. A couple of years ago I started trying to find someone to trade a similar vintage SG Standard or Custom. Because I didn't have photographic proof of them signing the guitar and a certificate of authenticity, no one would touch the guitar. So, since I can't pass it on to some one that wants it for the signatures, I've put it back in rotation as my number one axe. It is one of my best sounding guitars, and I love playing it. Hell with the signatures, guitars are meant to be played.
