500 Meg vs. 1 Gig: Cakewalk
I'm running Cakewalk Homestudio V2 on a Pentium 4 laptop with 500 meg memory. Wondering how much better it would run with 1 gig instead?
Anyone? |

Added memory will allow you to run more memory hungry plugins that need it, but other than that, more memory adds little to the process provided you have enough as specified by Cakewalk.

Exactly what GuitSlingerTim said. More memory allows you to record more tracks at once, use more plugins, and run more VSTi's.
I've got 4 gigs.

I used to have an iMac with 512MB of Ram, and it was good, but it only allowed me to run a certain amount of plug ins. Eq plug ins worked fine, but than when I started to use things like Reverb and Pitch Correction, it would turn into a night mare.
3 Weeks ago I bought a brand new iMac with 1 GB of ram, and bought 2 More GB of newegg(Only $110) So now with a total of 3GB, I have absolutely no issues, and can run basically as many plug ins as I can possibly imagine.

Going from 1/2Gig to 1 Gig you will notice an improvement..... Windows will take up more memory and will run faster.
But these days you should really go for 2Gig.... memory is cheap.

I had a lot of problems in Sonar (version3) with 750 megs (freezing up). Upgraded to 1.5 gigs and am problem free.
